After a year and half hiatus, Australian producer Flume ignited his 2019 world-wide tour, making a stop at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre last night.

As his only show stop on his summer tour outside of playing festivals like Lollapalooza and Outside Lands, Flume’s first night of Red Rocks led the producer to play around and experiment with his new hip-hop music collaborations with JPEGMAFIA and slowthai.

Colorado producer Collin McKenna opened up Tuesday night’s music at 6:55 p.m., before slowthai and JPEGMAFIA played 30-minute opening sets for some alternative hip-hop.

Flume took the stage at 9:45 p.m., igniting with hard-hitting electronic waves as he whipped out a pink can of spray paint, spelling out “Hi this is Flume” holding it up the screaming crowd. A melodic beat came on, as Flume welcomed collaborator slowthai onstage in his underwear for a electronic-hip hop collaboration off his newest mixtape release, Hi This Is Flume (Mixtape).

Vera Blue with Flume

Flume kicked started into his popular “Say It” and “Never Be Like You” as female vocalist Vera Blue sang the lyrics in substitute of Kai and Tove Lo from the original recording. An edgy, unstructured electronic beat surged around the mountainous rocks as Flume danced onstage and JPEGMAFIA strode back onstage for another R&B meets electronic collaboration.

Feeling the crowd, Flume played a new song for the crowd, twisting and turning in air and space melody before hitting it with a hard and heavy with a deep electronic beat. Another hip hop remix hit the crowd as psychedelic visuals of weapons and abstracts shapes projected behind Flume welding a sign onstage that read “Red Rocks.”

Flume teased the crowd as he layed with his back down onstage in a white suit to start up “Insane”, a male robotic voice narrating the opening lyrics “our rocks are red and so damn big” and four men in black suits surrounded around him, before jumping up and leading into an upbeat Lorde “Tennis Court” remix.

JPEGMAFIA returned onstage for an intense screaming hip-hop lyrical song, and keeping up with the heavy bass, Flume transitioned into a menacing performance of smashing objects onstage. A devilish monster transformed behind Flume as objects were smashed across the stage and a blood murder scene appeared the crowd from a bird’s eye view before getting swept away.

Picking the crowd back up into a disco house beat, the crowd got back to dancing and Vera Blue made her appearance back onstage for a lyrical light-beat. The crowd clapped along as the two danced, and Flume led into a spacey electronic take as Blue left the stage. Flume took to the piano and sang about people taking advantage of you as another hip-hop collaboration came on.

Teasing the crowd with a short reappearance of “Say It,” Flume went into his ever-most popular Disclosure original “You & Me,” inviting Vera Blue, slowthai, and JPEGMAFIA onstage for a dance party to end the night.

After about six minutes, Flume returned for a three-song encore, including his Chet Faker remix of “Drop The Game” as blooming flower visuals projected on the screen to the sold-out crowd.

Renowned visual artist and VJ Jonathan Singer will enter the pioneering NFT space by immortalizing a collection of three selected digital works on the blockchain titled, “The Hypnagogia Collection.”

For over 20 years, Singer has been on the forefront of live event visuals, pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a “VJ”, and helping to elevate the artform and raise awareness of its importance, especially within the psychedelic and jamband scenes. Singer has created content for some of the world’s finest lighting designers and VJs, and has collaborated with and performed alongside visionary stalwarts like the Grateful Dead, Alex and Allyson Grey, Amanda Sage, Tipper, Shpongle, The Allman Brothers, and more.

Set to be released and minted at 6 p.m. EST on April 15th via the NFT art auction platform Foundation, Singer will give collectors a chance to own a piece of history. For the first time ever, collectors will have a chance to own a piece of Singer’s digital artwork--not just a print--but the actual artwork itself, digitally signed by the artist as a single edition, minted on the Ethereum blockchain.

The collection features one still image and two animations, created by Singer and inspired by his experience with “Hypnagogic Travel”, a technique of exploring the states of consciousness that occur between the transitions of wakefulness and sleep.

“I’m truly excited that NFTs have come along to highlight artists in a whole new way. Watching the future become reality is an amazing thing. Over the last three decades I have really tried to develop my own unique style of digital art. I am honored and humbled to bring these works to a whole new audience by minting this collection,” Singer says.

NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are digital collectibles whose ownership is verified by blockchain technology, ensuring authenticity. The value of the digital files, which are purchased using cryptocurrency, lies in their uniqueness of being a sole token and inability to be replicated. Before NFTs, there was no real way for a digital artist to sell a single edition of an artwork without printing a single copy and selling it. Even then, the collector was actually only purchasing a copy of the original artwork.

Now, NFTs have opened up new and exciting possibilities for all artists to connect with their audiences, and have awarded novel opportunities to digital artists. NFT “smart contracts” allow artists to digitally sign artworks without ever bringing them into the physical world, and also provide the added benefit of a 10% artist commission on the secondary market, something the “real” art market has never been able to do.

Singer’s three-part NFT debut “The Hypnagogia Collection” will drop on Thursday, April 15th at 6 p.m. here. For more information, visit Singer’s website and Twitter.

The Green House Band is excited to announce its first full-length album Ocotillo is being released on all major platforms on July 9th, 2021. In addition to their upcoming debut album, the band will be headlining Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom on September 17th for the official album release show.

The 12-track album was mastered at Colorado Sound Studios (The Lumineers, John Mayer, The Black Crowes) and traverses colorful and broad sonic and lyrical spectrums.  Ranging from impassioned indie-rock track, “No Time at All,” to the album’s acoustic finale “Wiser Fool,” driven by powerful and harmonic vocals, and album centerpiece “Raining On Vandeventer,” Ocotillo finds at its core creative and relatable lyrics woven into soulful and energetic instrumentals.

“Taking the time to build our own studio and self-produce this album allowed each of us to play a part in cultivating our own creative sound, while mastering with Tom Capek at Colorado Sound allowed us to craft a beautiful and professional finished album. We can’t wait to continue to reinvent these energetic and passionate songs on stage this summer,” guitarist Michael Nunnick says.

The Green House Band has been featured in Prelude Press and Westword, and Bolder Beat compared TGHB to Tedeschi Trucks Band, citing "a driving rhythm section mixed with smooth vocals" and "layers of instrumentals and harmonies that mix together beautifully.”
