Mr. Hat presents a celebration of the life and music of Jimi Hendrix at Toot’s Tavern in the East Bay, with an opening set by Babylon Gypsies!
Liquid Sky is the San Francisco Bay Area's premier Jimi Hendrix tribute band. Fred Mabunga (Founder and Frontman) formed this tribute out of his love and passion for Jimi's music.
The band has evolved with its members since its founding in 2011, and this lineup is the best yet. Currently, Steve Tamer on bass keeps those groovy bass lines flowing somewhere between Noel Redding and Billy Cox. Jimmy Perez is currently filling the role of Mitch Mitchell on the drums, laying down the groove and coming close to replicating Mitch's unmistakable style. After many years of searching, Liquid Sky has finally found the perfect match.
Catch them live, and of course, you’ll hear all the hits such as "Fire," "Red House," "Voodoo Child," and "Purple Haze." But if you catch one of their longer sets, you’ll hear deeper cuts like "Burning of the Midnight Lamp," "Little Miss Lover," "Dolly Dagger," and "Freedom" that will satisfy even the most hardcore Hendrix fans. It is Liquid Sky’s mission to keep Jimi’s music alive and introduce it to generations to come.
Babylon Gypsies is a hard rock power trio from Northern California that plays classic, original hard rock in the vein of the '70s and early '80s.
Though comparisons to Rush’s first three albums are evident, Babylon Gypsies write and produce their own music, creating a unique sound that sets them apart. Their originality and creativity take them far beyond the realm of being just another rock band, establishing them as true artists with a distinctive musical identity. With influences ranging from Led Zeppelin to Uriah Heep and Black Sabbath (not to mention country picking and blues), Babylon Gypsies stand apart.
Babylon Gypsies distinguish themselves from other bands through their passionate and energetic commitment to original music. In an era dominated by cover bands and formulaic pop hits, the band makes a bold statement with their refusal to conform to trends. Their music is real, unfiltered, and captures the essence of rock-and-roll’s heyday—a side of rock that’s often missed in today’s world. Anchored by Robert Tillery’s masterful lead guitar riffs, Lance Richard’s powerful vocals, and Steve Carver’s pulsating bass lines, Babylon Gypsies’ music is both familiar and fresh. The band members work together as if they were a single entity, giving their music a remarkable sense of coherence and power. Together, they create something notably bigger than any of them could on their own. Babylon Gypsies, this dynamic trio, has earned a reputation for putting on amazing performances—some would say they rival the best acts in the business. When these guys take the stage, they command the attention of every audience member, and for good reason.

It Was Dead When I Got Here
David Gans—a songwriter, guitarist, Grateful Dead historian, author, and radio show host—teams up with Joe Rut's Sunshine Shovelers, recently voted the best band in the East Bay, to form It Was Dead When I Got Here. Both David and Joe share a deep love for Grateful Dead music among many other genres and styles.
"Joe called me a while back and said he wanted to play some Dead music," Gans recalls. "And right around that time, I got a call from the great keyboardist Joshua Raoul Brody: 'Hey, I'd like to do some of that conversational improv with you sometime.' That was a propitious confluence of events!" They recruited their mutual friend Dave Jess on bass, with Andrew Griffin rounding out the lineup on drums and vocals.
Having played a dozen or so very well-received gigs so far, the band is eager to take their collaborative venture further, bringing fresh energy to classic tunes.
