Today, as advance tickets go on sale for the 8th annual New Year’s music and mountain festival, SnowGlobe (SG18) reveals an expanded partnership with The Sugar Pine Foundation and a continued and expanded sustainability program with Waste-Free Earth. The premiere 3-night outdoor festival returns to its home of South Lake Tahoe in the sublime Sierra Nevada Mountains on December 29-31, 2018 and advance tickets are available to purchase at www.snowglobemusicfestival.com. More information regarding the highly-anticipated 2018 lineup to be announced soon.

In 2017, SnowGlobe partnered with The Sugar Pine Foundation to plant 200 sugar pine seedlings to help restore Lake Tahoe’s sugar pine population, which now makes up less than 5% of the Tahoe Forest. In an effort to help protect, preserve and nurture the beautiful and iconic setting that SnowGlobe is proud to make its home, the festival is doubling their donation for 2018 by sponsoring 400 sugar pine seedlings to be planted later this year. Additionally, SnowGlobe is offering the opportunity for fans to contribute to the cause, with the option to add $5 to any SG18 ticket order which will directly benefit The Sugar Pine Foundation and sponsor a future seedling. In step with the Sugar Pine Foundation partnership, SG18 is continuing and expanding their sustainability program with Waste-Free Earth for the 2018 festival. Waste-Free Earth will be back onsite hosting their Sustainability Booth, offering sustainability contests, photo opps, plastic pledges, and creating many fun, creative ways to educate, engage and involve the SG community in these greening efforts.

Some of SG18’s sustainability initiatives include:

Imperfect Produce

By partnering with Imperfect Produce in 2017, SG and Waste-Free Earth were able to donate over 500 pounds of food, just from this program alone, to 8 local organizations: Do No Violence, The Warm Room (Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless), South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center, Boys and Girls Club, Christmas Cheer, Tahoe Youth Family Center, Bread and Broth, and St. Theresa's Church. Proudly returning as a partner in 2018, fans are encouraged to visit the Sustainability Booth onsite to take a picture with the Imperfect Gang to instantly donate produce to people in need in the Lake Tahoe basin.

Waste Diversion

In 2017, SnowGlobe and Waste-Free Earth were able to divert 66% of the waste generated at SnowGlobe away from landfills. In total, SnowGlobe, with support from South Lake Tahoe Refuse, has diverted over 94,933 pounds away from the landfill and into composting, recycling and donations initiatives. SnowGlobe looks forward to growing this number in 2018.

Composting

SG18 is committed to being as waste-free as possible and now requires all food vendors to only serve on 100% compostable products, including no aluminum foil or plastic. All compostable materials are brought to Full Circle Compost in Carson City, NV where it is composted and turned into soil, that is then sold back into the local community.

Micro-trash Sweeping Contest

At the 2018 event, Waste-Free Earth is initiating a micro-trash sweeping contest. Attendees who return a small brown paper bag (found at the Sustainability Booth) filled with micro-trash (cigarette butts, bottle caps, wrappers, napkins etc.)  are entered to win official SG18 prizes.

Green Bag Contest

Similar to the micro-trash sweeping contest, SnowGlobe will host a Green Bag contest to get more people involved and keep the venue clean, while learning about sustainability. The Sustainability Booth will have 16-gallon green bags available for fans to fill it up with all types of waste found on the festival grounds and returned to the booth for prizes.

Call to Action Against Plastic Waste

Hosting a call to action contest, attendees can stop by the Sustainability Booth at SG18 to help take a stand against plastic waste. The sustainability team will have postcards available for fans to send to their state representatives asking them to take a stand against plastic waste. With pre-written prompts, information and addresses for various state reps readily available, the Waste-Free Earth team will even mail the postcards for attendees, making the process as easy and seamless as possible. As a bonus, participants will be entered into a daily raffle for prizes.

Plastic Pledge

SnowGlobe prides itself on being a plastic-free focused event, reducing their plastic intake wherever possible. Attendees can take a pledge to take a stand against plastic, and the sustainability team will provide tips on how to reduce plastic waste, how to shop plastic-free and what tricky items to look out for. Signing up for the pledge enters attendees into a daily raffle for SG18 prizes.

Additionally, SnowGlobe is proud to once again partner with Hotels for Hope, its long-term exclusive lodging partner for SG18. For every night a lodging accommodation is booked by SnowGlobe patrons, a portion will be donated directly to the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club. Picked as the official Hotels for Hope 2018 recipient, the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club provides children and teens with a safe, positive and welcoming environment where they can have fun and enhance their education and experiences.
