Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters has collaborated with 3x GRAMMY-award-winning mandolinist Ronnie McCoury on his brand new single “Skunk Weed,” out today via Americana Vibes. This is the third and final single release before his brand new record Squareneck Soul is released on June 23rd, his first full band solo effort since his 2008 album The Sound of Slide Guitar which won Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards.

“Skunk Weed” is a funky, bluesy song that leaves plenty of room for improvisation and interplay between musicians. In titling every track on the new album, Hall reveals that he found it to be an artistic process to come up with words that sonically represented each song. This tune has a free-flowing, almost humorous nature, so he found “Skunk Weed” to aptly represent the exchange between himself, McCoury, and the musicians on the album. Joining Hall on Squareneck Soul are fellow Stringduster Travis Book on bass, rising bluegrass star Sierra Hull on mandolin, and prodigious banjoist Wes Corbett of Sam Bush Band,

Each of the 10 new compositions on Squareneck Soul are meant to serve as templates for improvisation and pickin’. Composed during a 3-4 week period, Hall was not only committed to connecting with three of his favorite musicians and people he genuinely enjoys being around but continue to be an ambassador of the dobro, highlighting it as a solo instrument and presenting it in different settings. Prior to Squareneck Soul, Hall released his first ambient music effort A Universe Within in 2021 during pandemic downtime and a fully solo record 12 Bluegrass Classics for Resophonic Guitar in 2020, a collection of classic bluegrass songs and influences that inspired his musical journey.

Hall and The Infamous Stringdusters are coming off of key festival plays at Charm City Bluegrass Festival and DelFest as they prepare for a slew of additional appearances at Telluride Bluegrass Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, Earl Scruggs Music Festival, and more. Additionally, the band recently announced their own festival The "Infamous" Weekend featuring 4+ sets of music by the group taking place at Pop's Farm in Martinsville, VA.
