In Between Days Festival is excited to announce a partnership with 1 Million Strong that will bring a sober-supportive sanctuary to its festival grounds this summer, the first of its kind for a major live music event in the region.

The 1 Million Strong Retreat is powered by The Phoenix, a national sober active community with their East Coast headquarters in Boston, and will welcome festival goers to its inclusive sober-supportive retreat experience at this year’s In Between Days music festival, taking place August 19 and 20 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy.

In Between Days 2023 will feature two stages of music, with nearly two dozen bands and artists comprising a diverse and eclectic lineup that’s one of the most exciting showcases of live music in New England. The 2023 edition is headlined by Modest Mouse and Lord Huron, with Phantogram, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Beths, Trampled By Turtles and others, including a dozen homegrown acts from across New England.

“We're thrilled to partner with 1 Million Strong and The Phoenix to create a sober supportive retreat at In Between Days festival,” says Heritage Sports Ventures CEO and In Between Days Founder Alex Magleby. “We are crafting experiences that are meaningful for our fans, and cultivating spaces where everyone can enjoy themselves on equal terms. The goal is for everyone to be able to enjoy the festival in their own way. In Between Days is committed to offering a fan-first experience for everyone who attends the festival."

1 Million Strong is an impact initiative that seeks to support one million people impacted by substance use. At In Between Days, attendees can join 1 Million Strong and The Phoenix in a dedicated lounge space to relax, recharge, and enjoy non-alcoholic drinks. There, sober attendees and their allies, friends, and family can meet up to find a community and head out to festival stages with others who are committed to supporting each other’s wellness.

“The Phoenix is greatly excited to join forces with In Between Days this year as we bring our passion for supporting the recovery community to our hometown fans,” says Scott Strode, the Founder and National Executive Director of The Phoenix. “With our headquarters in Boston, this partnership holds a special significance as we continue our decade-long commitment to serving this community. Expanding our reach to festival environments through 1 Million Strong allows us to extend our support and empowerment to fans, fostering a culture of wellness and inclusivity in the music industry.”

At the 1 Million Strong Retreat tent, festival goers can also snap a selfie in the photo booth, grab paper fans, sunscreen packets, earplugs, bandannas, and hats, and enter to win shirts via on-site giveaways. 1 Million Strong is an initiative powered by The Phoenix, which was founded on a mission to build a national sober active community that fuels resilience and harnesses the transformational power of connection. Over the past year, 1 Million Strong has created empowered spaces at music festivals across the country, including Stagecoach, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Bourbon & Beyond, Louder Than Life, Park City Song Summit, and California’s Cruel World and Just Like Heaven festivals.

1 Million Strong was also created in collaboration with Stand Together Foundation, which is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in America by driving change from within communities; and Stand Together Music, an organization that believes that the music industry is uniquely positioned to amplify and accelerate addiction recovery. The group estimates that there are currently 46.3 million people in the United States currently struggling with a substance use disorder.

“We are incredibly excited to partner with In Between Days to bring the transformative power of 1 Million Strong to their festival this year,” adds Colette Weintraub, Head of Stand Together Music. “In Between Days’ commitment to creating an exceptional fan experience, fostering a sense of community, and ensuring inclusivity aligns with our mission to break down barriers, remove stigma, and create solutions for people in recovery. Together, we will create a festival environment where no fan is left outside the gates, and where the power of music and connection can be experienced by all.”

The 1 Million Strong Retreat will blend in with the scope of offerings at this year’s festival. The expansive, open-air festival grounds of Veterans Memorial Stadium will also host a one-of-a-kind festival shopping experience in partnership with Little City Thrifty Vintage Market and The Good Trade Makers Market. This curated collection will feature vintage fashion, home decor, vinyl record dealers and local independent makers selling their specialty crafted wares. Fans can also have fun in the retro arcade presented by Bit Bar Salem and enjoy tasty bites from local restaurants and food trucks. It all adds up to a unique community-driven experience unlike any other festival. Among the non-alcoholic offerings at In Between Days are Guayaki Yerba Mate and Recess beverages.
