GRAMMY® Award-nominated songwriter, producer, and guitarist extraordinaire Cory Wong has shared a new song in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Louis Cole. “The Grid Generation (Feat. Louis Cole),” is available now everywhere.

"Louis Cole is a once-in-a-generation talent," says Cory Wong. "He’s got a singular voice on the drums and it brings so much energy. The way he approaches rhythm on the drums is very similar to the way I approach rhythm on the guitar. Louis and I have talked for years about the fact that we are growing up in a generation where so much music is made ‘on the grid’ (to a metronome). Oftentimes, modern musicians snap their music right on the grid and it can start to feel lifeless; but Louis and I have an approach of recording on the grid, but letting the grid breathe. I think it’s important to keep the human elements of rhythm and the push-pull energy that naturally happens when we play our instruments. I was on tour a few months ago and was thinking about some ideas that I could come up with as a new opener for the show. I asked Kevin Gastonguay (the keyboard player in the band) if he had any ideas. He sent me an idea that I loved, so I started working on it in the studio one day. As I was making the demo and recording the drums, I realized that what I was doing was trying to create a Louis Cole drum track over the song. I figured there was only one drummer on the Earth that can do the Louis Cole thing as well as Louis Cole, so I texted him the song and here we are!"

"The Grid Generation (Feat. Louis Cole)" is taken from Cory Wong's new studio album, The Lucky One, out August 18. The album was heralded earlier this year by the release of the single "Look At Me (Feat. Allen Stone)." It was followed by "Ready (Feat. Ben Rector)" and "Hiding on the Moon (Feat. O.A.R.)" in early and late June respectively. The collection expertly showcases Wong’s constantly evolving creative chops as producer, guitarist, and songwriter as well as his irrepressible belief in the power of collaboration. A complete tracklist featuring additional special guests will be unveiled soon.

“I like mixing it up,” Wong says, “and it informed the way I wanted to approach making this album. At this point in my creative journey, I’m constantly trying to find ways to challenge myself and make myself better. I worked with great co-writers and collaborators that kept me honest and pushed me to be better than ever while making this album. I feel like I’m at an era in my life where I’ve been more creatively charged than ever, and I’m constantly inspired by getting to make music and travel the world with my friends playing music. It’s a gift and I truly am ‘The Lucky One.’”

Wong – who recently performed with Nile Rodgers at the Montreux Jazz Festival, and in June played his own set at Bonnaroo and served as Musical Director for this year's legendary Superjam – will continue to celebrate The Lucky One with a truly epic live schedule, including headline shows and more festival appearances around the world, an EU/UK headline tour, and his first-ever shows in Japan, Thailand, Jakarta, and Hawaii. Among the upcoming highlights, Wong will serve as Musical Director for the 2023 JammJam at Las Vegas, NV’s Life, Is Beautiful (September 22).
