Outformation- for the Grateful Web

OUTFORMATION is an Atlanta, GA based rock band dedicated to honest songwriting and blistering live shows. The music is original and classic, from 70's guitar rock, to deep south funk, with a familiar wind that blows through all the songs.

Since its inception Outformation has built a following of dedicated fans who love their rock and roll southern style. Outformation has performed in theatres and headlined clubs throughout the Southeast, East Coast, Colorado, and California.

The band has shared the stage with Col. Bruce Hampton, Ret., Jerry Joseph, Luther Dickinson, Eric McFadden (P-Funk), Cecil 'P-Nut' Daniels, Stockholm Syndrome, The Smiling Assassins (featuring John "Jo Jo" Hermann with the North Mississippi All-Stars), Rev. Jeff Mosier (Aquarium Rescue Unit, Blueground Undergrass) and Johnny Neel (Allman Bros., X2).

Outformation features Sam Holt (guitar/vocals), Grady Upchurch (bass/vocals), Lee Schwartz (drums/vocls), CR Gruver (keys/vocals), Jeff "Birdogg" Lane (percussion/vocals), and Clarke Keown (guitar/vocals).

All of these strengths are evident on their first full-length album, Tennessee Before Daylight, which is out now through the band's label Outerprise Records, which is distributed by Red Eye U.S.A. Produced by Widespread Panic keyboardist John "JoJo" Hermann - who also adds keys to the album - and engineered by Atlanta producer Eli Akins (Captain Soularcat, The Sundogs), Tennessee Before Daylight features the band's unique sound framed by tight arrangements and honest lyrics.

Tennessee Before Daylight includes an especially poignant song, "Can't Change the Past", sung by Holt and written by Michael Houser, the late guitarist for Widespread Panic. Houser played a key role in Holt's development as a guitarist, songwriter, and live performer. Holt served as Houser's chief guitar technician for two years on the road. Houser encouraged Holt's musical development, urging him to write songs and play live whenever possible. After Houser's passing in 2002, Holt – who continues to work for Widespread Panic – was armed with the confidence and inspiration Houser gave him and teamed with hometown Chattanooga friend Upchurch and drummer Schwartz to create Outformation.

Recent highlights included shows in Aspen, and The Gothic Theater in Denver, CO. July was a busy month, with stops in San Francisco, 2 Nights in Berkeley, and one great night at Ceasar' Palace, South Lake Tahoe, CA.

We returned to the South in August for the fist time since Bonnarroo, to end our southeastern run with a sellout at Smiths Olde Bar in Atlanta, GA. Other memorable stops included The Maple Leaf in New Orleans Garden District, and The Soul Kitchen in Mobile, AL. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the good people of this area, so please help out in any way possible. Look for Outformation's Southeastern Tour Nov/Dec 2005, and Colorado Winter 2006.....see you there!!
