Sarah Shook & the Disarmers Share New Single About Mental Health Under Capitalism, Announce More US Dates

Today, with the release of the galvanizing opener and strikingly self-honest title track from their forthcoming album, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers further show why Revelations is their most resilient and raw, blunt and biting, compassionate and celebratory set of music to date. Out March 29th on Abeyance Records/Thirty Tigers, the 10-song collection was self-produced by bandleader River Shook (they/them) for the very first time, with their unwavering integrity and working-class character at its autobiographical core. Shook's chief coping mechanism has always been songwriting, and on "Revelations" they use their singular collision of punk-rock truth telling and outlaw-country twang to illustrate the constant, unstable struggle of navigating mental health under the confines of capitalism. In between references to pittance payments and the old guard dictating one's worth, River Shook describes black clouds, sleepless nights and barely scraping by, all of which is brought to life in a stirring music video directed by Jordan Gibson.

"Revelations" follows the recently released "Backsliders," which Rolling Stone named a Song You Need to Know, as River Shook "brings honesty and heart to every line they sing" (American Songwriter). Across the rest of the album, they channel the commanding energy and ferocious spirit of their live shows into pointed rally cries that capture the full gamut of the human experience. Whether it's denouncing patriarchs, fighting for queer love, coming to terms with issues of substance abuse and unhealthy relationships, or finding beauty at the end of the world, feelings of anger, sadness, confusion and acceptance all fill the LP, as Shook reaches the top of their game and reflects on their evolution as both an artist and a person.

While River Shook is based in Chapel Hill, NC, they live hundreds of dates a year on the road, making them an expert collector of human experiences and the ways in which people are getting by, keeping on and going through many of the same things together. Beginning this week, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers will perform the music of Revelations around the country, kicking off a 2024 tour that has just been extended with more than 20 new dates across the east and west coasts - including NYC's TV Eye, LA's Zebulon, and dozens of other stops that are on-sale now.
