Darke County, Ohio-based, Americana/indie-soul act, Shannon Clark & the Sugar, and releasing their video "The Burden" (out 2/18/22) from their May 2021 full length album Marks on the Wall, produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, U2, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Emmy Lou Harris, Willie Nelson). Lucky that talent runs in the family, the husband, wife, and daughter team write and perform their original music about personal loss, struggles and the human condition, weaving together heartfelt emotions with a distinctive flair. "'The Burden' tells the story of a young pregnant girl and her trying to make the decision whether to have an abortion or not.  The song takes you through her imagination and her contemplation of the angles and what it would mean for her and her child.  I wrote this song after overhearing a conversation between a father and his young daughter at a small town coffee shop.  He was pressuring her to abort her baby and she was struggling with the idea.  I don't know what became of her situation so I wrote the song how I imagined she would have felt. There are songs about this subject in many different ways.   As Parents this would be the most difficult thing to have to talk to with a child," states Shannon Clark.

The trio’s journey to their current arrangement was not an easy one. Husband and wife duo, Shannon and Brittany Clark joined the Warped Tour to represent Ohio in the mid 2000’s. Soon after, tragedy hit the family with the loss of their second daughter. For a time the music stopped. However, the pair swiftly found that creative songwriting would become the healing tool that brought them together and revived the band. When their oldest daughter, Navie joined in 2019 as a vocalist/instrumentalist, they began experimenting with a new sound and Shannon Clark & the Sugar was born.
