The Music Box in San Diego, CA received an electrifying performance on Saturday November 4th from the renowned jam band Spafford. The packed house was treated to a special cover of "Mad World" by Tears for Fears, the legendary English pop band from the 1980's. Spafford really puts their own flavor to this cover and combines high energy transitions with electronic and rock elements to push the song to new and unique levels. "Mad World" was sandwiched between the incredible original instrumental "Dirtbath," written by lead guitarist/vocalist Brian Moss at the early age of sixteen.

Just before the insanity of "Mad World" was yet another tasty musical sandwich. Spafford opened the set with original song "Electric Taco Stand" and then directly into the former #1 Latin-tinged hit, "Tequila" by The Champs. This is another example of how Spafford pushes back against the proverbial musical box and continues to bend different genres and styles of music. You literally can't spell 'improvisation" without the 'S' from Spafford!

Spafford is headed to the Carolinas next, with stops at Sierra Nevada Brewing and Charleston Pour House next week for the start of the final leg of their 2023 Fall Tour.
