Some 14 years ago, Donna Jean and the Tricksters (Donna Jean Godchaux and the Zen Tricksters, basically) put out an album of the same name.  It included a song called “Shelter.”  As the pandemic took over our lives, Donna Jean thought about the new meaning of the song and….but let me let her tell you about it:

The wheel is turning, it can’t slow down… In homage to Yonkers born almost 102 years old Beatnik publisher, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, I give you my stream of consciousness notes to the best show I have seen all year long. Billy Strings Deja Vu Experiment at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on 2/20/21 was one of a series of six shows that was truly unlike any show I’ve ever experienced.  Things are changing so here is a review like I’ve never written:

This past year has been a challenging one for everyone across the globe.  The music industry has been hit especially hard with small venues closing, touring musicians unable to perform and uncertainty around when the concert industry will be able to open back up again. Despite this, musicians are still creating and writing new material and many folks – professional musicians and those who just enjoy playing – have spent time during quarantine devoted to becoming more proficient or learning a new instrument altogether.

Satsang has just unveiled a new music video for “This Place,” the second single from their upcoming album ‘All. Right. Now.’ (6/4). Featuring singer/songwriter Trevor Hall, “This Place” forms the emotional core of the band’s new album, in which frontman Drew McManus is found reconnecting with his Montana roots and exploring a whole new palette of sounds, inspired by the wide-open fields and soaring mountains of their home state.

Launched earlier this year The Music Plays the Band podcast from Dark Star Orchestra Drummer Rob Koritz has been highlighting and focusing on the influence of the Grateful Dead on the life and career of professional musicians within the jamband world and beyond.

NewSong Music is now accepting original song entries for its 19th annual songwriting and performance competition, presented by Citizen Vinyl. The program, whose curated showcases have been a fixture in the national music scene since 2001, is proud to announce a new partnership with North Carolina’s first vinyl record pressing facility to present this year’s performance and songwriting showcase and competition.

Every Monday for this current month of March, jam funk quartet Magic Beans are set to perform what they’ve dubbed Magic Mondays: a roughly two-hour virtual performance from their home practice space in Colorado, live streamed on their Facebook page. The band has performed two Magic Mondays thus far, which have been free to stream as they will be the rest of March as well.

Multi-platinum band Barenaked Ladies announce an epic weekend concert streaming event, Flip n’ Hits with BNL: A Night of Monster Jams of Pandemic Proportions, to take place on Saturday, April 17 at 9pm EDT / 6pm PDT with a very special encore performance on Sunday, April 18 at 8pm GMT. The show will be a 60 minutes long and have its own high-powered energy and fun, and will be available for fans to attend from any region, across the globe.

Roots of Creation is excited to release the new music video for “Light It Up!” The single first debuted late 2020 and is the first of many singles coming out from the upcoming album “Dub Free or Die Vol 1,” due out this Spring.
