The biggest little festival in Massachusetts has seen explosive growth over the past 3 years, growing from an intimate barbeque with friends to a standout community gathering expecting 10,000 fans in its fourth year.
The event takes place at the historic Marshfield Fairgrounds [140 Main Street, Marshfield, MA] on Saturday, July 9, 2016. VIP, Early Bird and Camping tickets at Wompatuck State Park are already sold out. General admission tickets are currently available at http://www.levitatemusicfestival.com
The Levitate Music and Arts Festival’s (LMF) foundation is Levitate, a community oriented surf/skate shop and apparel line based out of Marshfield. The husband and wife team of Daniel and Jessica Hassett own and operate the shop and threw the first LMF in 2013 as a ten year anniversary party. Daniel began working at the store as a high school student in 2003 under the previous owner Bob Pollard, who taught Daniel how to surf and skate. For more than a decade, Levitate has been involved in youth programs, beach cleanups, surf and skateboard contests and fundraising initiatives. The Hassetts have consciously honored Levitate’s mission to lift up and grow the surrounding communities with their event. LMF is proud to partner with organizations like The Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield, Love, Hope, Strength Foundation, North River Arts Society, and more. For every ticket sold to LMF, the festival donates $1 to the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield, and over the past few years, Levitate helped raise over $500,000 which was used to rebuild the town’s skateboard park. The organizers are adding a comprehensive recycling program at the festival, and are planning for more environmentally sustainable measures for future events.
LMF has blossomed into one of New England’s premier boutique festivals. Daniel Hassett contributes their growth to the top tier musical talent, a homegrown vibe with local artists and vendors, and Levitate’s harmonious relationship with the community that Pollard began cultivating years ago with his local shop and philanthropic efforts. Hassett enthusiastically states, “We take a lot of pride in bringing people together in a beautiful outdoors setting, in the grass, for a full day. It brings out the best in our community and creates a laid back, old fashioned vibe that can be lacking at a larger festival.” He adds, “What keeps us growing within our community in an organic way are the awesome, supportive fans who bring new friends each year and spread the word about our unique ‘big little’ festival.”
