On Saturday, May 17, the fourth annual Cruel World Festival took place in Pasadena, California. Just days earlier, the same venue hosted the Just Like Heaven Festival under record-breaking 100°F heat. For Cruel World, though, those sun-baked skies were replaced by a fittingly gloomy California “May Gray” morning.

Veteran composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Darryl Alexander will usher in the summer with the release of his soulful new single “Seen It Before” on June 27, 2025. The buoyant track features Billboard-charting saxophonist Jackiem Joyner, whose bright melodies glide over Alexander’s rhythmic pocket to create an irresistible, forward-leaning groove.
