Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and musician Brent Cobb and his band The Fixin’s release a new version of “Power Man” with Cody Cannon of Whiskey Myers today—listen HERE.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Cobb shares, “I've known the Whiskey Myers boys goin' on 20 years now. Like me, they're a band who have done it their way, on their terms, steering their own ship. I knew they’d get this song. ‘Bar Guitar, and a Honky Tonk Crowd’ was one of the first real rock songs I ever wrote, I think it might’ve been my second official cut as a writer. It’s another one of those ‘songs that could.’ It’s kept my lights on, my babies fed, and changed my life. Having Whiskey Myers on ‘Power Man’ just felt right. Cody seemed fired up to do it, and John even told me he wished there’d been a spot to lay down some guitar. The song’s got a rock edge, and so does our history. It all lined up."
The song comes on the heels of the release of their anticipated new album, Ain’t Rocked in a While, via Ol’ Buddy Records/Thirty Tigers. Steam/purchase HERE.
Produced by Cobb and Oran Thornton, Ain’t Rocked in a While captures the electric energy of Cobb’s live shows, while still keeping his signature storytelling at the forefront. Recorded live to tape at The Black Palace in Springfield, MO, the album finds Cobb returning to his roots, as he blends his timeless country sound with influences from classic rock.
In celebration of the new album, Cobb & The Fixin’s will embark on an extensive headline tour through the fall. Upcoming stops include New York’s Bowery Ballroom, Los Angeles’ Troubadour, Chicago’s Joe’s on Weed St., Washington, D.C.’s The Hamilton, Tucson’s Club Congress and Portland’s Aladdin Theater, among many others. See below for complete itinerary. Full details can be found at www.brentcobbmusic.com/tour.
In addition to Cobb (vocals, guitar), The Fixin’s are Len Clark (drums), Matt McDaniel (guitars) and Josh Williams (bass).
Based in Ellaville, GA, Cobb has released five albums to date including 2023’s acclaimed record, Southern Star—a love-letter to his southern roots, filled with the sounds and stories of his home state of Georgia. Of the record, Rolling Stone declared, “Few artists embody the South quite like Brent Cobb…he summons the easygoing vibes and sounds of his native Georgia,” while No Depression praised, “A true songwriting craftsman with a disarming drawl and plainspoken lyricism, Cobb’s music often feels like it exudes a sense of authenticity and tradition.”
In addition to his work as an artist, Cobb is an esteemed songwriter with cuts by Luke Combs, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Riley Green, Little Big Town, Hailey Whitters, Whiskey Myers and many more. Additionally, his song, “Snakebite,” was featured in the first season of Paramount’s “Landman” this past fall, and he released his first children’s book, Little Stuff, in 2021, which was written as a reflection on what’s truly important in life and was inspired by Cobb’s song of the same name from his album, Keep ‘Em On They Toes.
ABOUT WHISKEY MYERS
Genre-bending band Whiskey Myers have played nearly 3,000 live shows to ever-increasing crowd sizes since their emergence in 2007. In addition to headlining their own sold-out shows from coast to coast at iconic venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Ryman Auditorium, plus performing at marquee festivals Bonnaroo, Stagecoach, Download and more, the six-piece was also personally selected to open The Rolling Stones’ Chicago stadium show. The band is poised to begin their next chapter with their highly-anticipated seventh studio album Whomp Whack Thunder arriving Sept. 26 via the band’s own Wiggy Thump Records, with lead single “Time Bomb” climbing the Active Rock radio charts now. Their previous project, Tornillo, featured the No. 17 most-played Americana song of 2022, “John Wayne,” and followed breakthrough album Whiskey Myers, which debuted at No. 1 on both the Country and Americana/Folk sales charts, at No. 2 on the Rock chart and No. 6 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart (No. 3 among new releases). In total, Whiskey Myers have sold more than 2.5 million albums and amassed over 3.7 billion streams while earning nine RIAA Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum certifications as an independent band. Known for their high-energy live show and unique sound, the band praised by Esquire as “the real damn deal” has also earned sync success with features in Paramount’s hit shows “Yellowstone” (including an on-screen performance) and “Landman,” plus Netflix series “What/If,” Angelina Jolie film “Those Who Wish Me Dead” and CBS series “SEAL Team,” among others. USA Today describes their sound as “a riff-heavy blend of Southern rock and gritty country that has earned comparisons to the Allman Brothers Band and Led Zeppelin,” with Rolling Stone noting “it’s the seminal combination of twang and crunchy rock & roll guitars that hits a perfect sweet spot.”
