John Fogerty Takes A Victory Lap With New Album 'Legacy: the Creedence Clearwater Revival years'

John Fogerty, Grammy winner, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, and Songwriters Hall of Famer, releases his anticipated new album Legacy: the Creedence Clearwater Revival years today via Concord. Arriving as he celebrates his 80th birthday year, the 20-track collection features newly recorded versions of his most beloved songs, all written by Fogerty—a sweeping catalog that includes “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son,” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” and the release-day focus track “Bad Moon Rising.”

For the first time in his career, Fogerty fully owns the rights to his groundbreaking CCR catalog—a milestone decades in the making. Legacy stands as a full-circle moment, a hard-won reclamation now brought to life with new recordings on his own terms. Produced by Fogerty and his son Shane Fogerty, with executive production by Julie Fogerty, the album channels both the raw fire of the originals and the joy of this present-day triumph. With renewed energy and purpose, Fogerty breathes fresh life into the songs that continue to define American rock and roll.

“For most of my life I did not own the songs I had written,” says Fogerty. “Getting them back changes everything. Legacy is my way of celebrating that—of playing these songs on my terms, with the people I love.”

Both Shane and his brother Tyler Fogerty perform throughout the album, recorded with Matt Chamberlain, Bob Malone, Bob Glaub and Rob Stone.  It was mixed by legendary engineer Bob Clearmountain in both stereo and Atmos, marking the first time these iconic songs have been available in Atmos. Legacy has already earned praise from Rolling Stone, NYMag / Vulture, The Guardian, The LA Times, UNCUT, Billboard, and more.

“Bad Moon Rising,” today’s focus track, has long been one of Fogerty’s signature songs—streamed more than one billion times and recognized as one of the most enduring rock anthems of the last half-century. On Legacy, Fogerty revisits the track with the same urgency and conviction that first made it a classic, now powered by the collaboration and spirit of his family band. The project is also deeply personal. Inspiration for Legacy began in 2023, when Fogerty achieved a lifelong goal of reclaiming ownership of his publishing after decades of legal battles. Recording the songs anew was his way of not only celebrating that victory, but also creating definitive new versions with his family. “I’m 80 years old,” he says. “I’m giving myself a gift with this album—and I’m giving my fans a gift at the same time.”

Legacy: the Creedence Clearwater Revival years is available now on vinyl, CD, and all digital platforms HERE.

The release of Legacy crowns a banner year for Fogerty, who was inducted at the American Music Honors (introduced by Bruce Springsteen), delivered fiery headline sets at JazzFest, Glastonbury, SXSW and The Hollywood Bowl, and marked his milestone birthday with sold-out shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre. The Associated Press praised his performance as being delivered “with the joy of a teenager,” while Mojo Magazine declared his Glastonbury set “the very definition of all killer, no filler.”

Today at 12PM and 7PM ET, Fogerty will give fans a special iHeartRadio ICONS performance on the Deep Cuts Station, followed by a SiriusXM weekend takeover on the Classic Vinyl channel. Coming up in September, Fogerty will be honored with BMI’s 2025 Troubadour Award.  Fogerty will tour throughout the remainder of 2025, including his just-announced return to Mexico City after 20 years. Next week, he’ll announce a new string of headline tour dates. Please see all announced dates below and visit https://johnfogerty.com/ for more information.
