Readying itself as an antidote for the weariness worn on the sleeves of blues music lovers everywhere, a new collective project makes its way to the scene with the Strongman Blues Remedy, Volume 1 —available June 17 via Stony Plain Records.

Fresh off their live performance debut this past Sunday at The Rainbow Bar & Grill’s 50th Anniversary celebration, Sometimes Y, the dynamic new rock collaboration from superstars Yelawolf and Shooter Jennings, has announced their first-ever headlining show for Sunday, May 8th at The Viper Room in Los Angeles. The free show will have first come, first serve entry, with doors opening at 7pm.

Following the announcement of his first album in over 40 years, I Ran Down Every Dream (due out August 26 on Yep Roc), Swamp pop legend Tommy McLain will make his mark on Jazzfest 2022, supporting Lucinda Williams for two shows at The House of Blues New Orleans, playing the Fair Grounds with CC Addock and more. Tomorrow, April 28th, Arlo McKinley, Tyler Childers, and Jeremy Pinnell are banding together for a spring concert stream benefitting Healing Appalachia, an organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness to combat opioid addiction across the region. 

On May 30th, in honor of Dia de los Muertos The Caverns is hosting a special event to be aired on PBS later this year. The celebration of The Day of the Dead has become a globally recognized Latinx holiday, traditionally observed on the first two days of November. Dia de los Muertos sees families and friends of loved ones who have died pay respect with colorful, memorial gatherings often taking the air of a joyful celebration rather than of mourning for the departed.

It’s just coincidental that Austin musician Everett Wren’s new album, Porchlight, contains a song titled “Rebirth,” but the May 20, 2022 release does represent a rebirth of sorts. Forty Below Records announces the signing of celebrated Blues and Roots musician Joe Louis Walker. A Blues Hall of Fame inductee and six-time Blues Music Award winner, NPR described Walker as “a legendary boundary-pushing icon of modern blues”. His 2015 release Everyone Wants a Piece was nominated for the Contemporary Blues Grammy. Walker dueted with B.B. King on his Grammy Award-winning Blues Summit album and played guitar on James Cotton’s Grammy winning album Deep in the Blues.
