This February 2024, the Fox Theater – Oakland celebrates 15 years since reopening as a world-class live entertainment venue under the direction of Another Planet Entertainment. Oakland’s architectural masterpiece made its debut in 1928 as a movie palace, eventually closing in 1966 and remaining shuttered for over 40 years. After undergoing an expansive $75 million renovation of the space and taking careful steps to restore its jaw-dropping original details, the Fox Theater made its glorious return in February 2009.

Mountain music has been in Jesse Smathers’ family for generations. His grandfather, Harold Smathers, and grand uncle Luke Smathers, recorded for June Appal and were awarded the North Carolina Folk Heritage Award in 1993 for their contributions to North Carolina folk music. Today, GRAMMY-award winning rock bands The National and The War On Drugs announced their 2024 Zen Diagram Tour across North America, marking the first time the two bands have toured together. The 19-date fall run kicks off on Thursday, September 12 in Gilford, NH at Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion, with stops in New York, Toronto, Chicago, Vancouver, Berkeley, and more before wrapping up with a performance at Mexico City’s Palacio De Los Deportes on Thursday, October 10.
