Most frequently overheard at festivals like Blottopia XII that took place at Vasa Park in South Elgin, Illinois on 7/22-24 2011 is the phrase “I’m with the band.” The Chicagoland superheroes Mr. Blotto headline as they have for the past twelve years.

As a relative newcomer to Colorado, I've been waiting to find a festival than can live up to the wonderful Arkansas festivals I've come to know and love over the years. I can definitely say I've found just such a festival high in the mountains at Rancho Del Rio, YarmonyGrass.

On August 6, 2011, Ben Sollee, joined by Phoebe Hunt, on violin, and Jordon Ellis, “on percussion,” played at Larimer Lounge in Denver, CO. 

Visual artist, writer, musician and actor Wes Freed is a Southern Gothic multi-disciplinary wonder of sorts. His work overlaps to such an extent he almost sings his paintings and paints his songs. Freed himself, his wife and long-time collaborator Jyl, his truck and his home studio all seem to overlap with it as well.

“Concentrate”, the title of Freekbass’s newest album sums it well. With the influence of funk genre music that Freek experienced growing up in Cincinnati Ohio, along with his deep desire to play bass, Freekbass has without a question created an album that keeps bass and funk glued like never heard before.

On June 5th Bright Eyes played the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver for what many fans thought would be their last Colorado appearance.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds will be performing at the Rocky Mountain Music Festival, at the Denver Botanic Gardens near Chatfield, 8500 West Deer Creek Canyon Road, in Littleton, CO, on August 28.  Admission to the Festival, is $48 at the gate for adults, $20 for youth between 12 and 17 years old, and free for children 11 and under.  VIP tickets f
