Resuming its status as an annual event after several seasons as a biennial, the New York Guitar Festival returns in Spring 2017 with cross-cultural concert programming in celebration of works for guitar. This year the Festival expands its partnership with media sponsor WNYC, which will host a 4-week series of events at The Greene Space.

With their sophomore release two, the rising PHO use funk as a vehicle to explore their “Minneapolis sound” influences with torch in hand. Intimate and soulful, intense and highly energetic, the new album comes sprinkled with psychedelia and hip-hop, while maintaining the tight arrangements of funk tradition. The thirteen tracks, which were produced by John Davis, feature Kirk Johnson of Prince’s New Power Generation on percussion.

After just wrapping up their spring tour expanding into new territories with the Werks, TAUK, and more; Earphorik is at it again. This time the band has teamed up with We’re hEAR for You in conjunction with Hearo’s Ear Plugs, and NYS Music to provide free EAR plugs at their shows. The band throws hard hitting jam/prog rock shows with a dominate force each night so is on a mission to take care of their fans in every way possible.

Los Angeles based Rock Fusion trio, King Llama, is hitting some big stages this year with their album, RETURN TO OX. Happening right now is a South American tour.  Look out as King Llama performs at a few notable festivals, including 2 days at Summer Camp Festival in Chillicothe IL this Memorial Day weekend, and Progtoberfest in Chicago on Saturday 10/21.

A Northern Star, A Perfect Stone, the debut album from experimental Canadian artist Mappe Of, is set for release on July 28 through Paper Bag Records. The album’s opening two tracks, the delicate, atmospheric “Cavern’s Dark” and the progressive oeuvre “Nimbin” offer a glimpse into the scope of A Northern Star, A Perfect Stone. Both songs have just been released and can be heard HERE.

When your music is so diverse that suitable comparisons include No Doubt, Sublime, Black Eyed Peas, and even Rihanna (via singer Katherine Ramirez) you know you have a lot of eyes and ears wondering what you’re going to do next. For Mystic Roots Band, a group who came together by throwing college backyard parties in Chico, CA to touring the world as Pato Banton’s backing band, the answer lies in their latest album, CHANGE.

Drummer and overall music collaborator Dave Watts (The Motet, Felabration) is at it again with another concoction of musical paradise. This time the band will feature the zany, ivory mad scientist Todd Stoops (RAQ, Electric Beethoven), the diversified incommensurable guitarist Marcus Rezak (Stratosphere All-Stars, Digital Tape Machine), and the steadfast continuance of thump Chuck Jones (Dopapod).

This past April, electronic dance music pioneer Paul Oakenfold--with more than 300 hikers--made the 37-mile hike through Nepal's remote villages and the Himalayan Mountains for a groundbreaking live concert event, spinning a set at the base camp of Mount Everest to launch the SoundTrek series.
 
Metallica will kick off their WorldWired 2017 North American tour in support of their new album Hardwired...To Self-Destruct tonight in Baltimore, MD at M&T Bank Stadium.

CALICO the band, short for “California Country”, is set to release their sophomore album, Under Blue Skies, on July 21st.  With all its musical intricacy and lyrical eloquence, Under Blue Skies embraces the signature sun-drenched, California country sound founder and leaders Manda Mosher and Kirsten Proffit have made their own. The intimate, tightly harmonized songs of Under Blue Skies will be out on CD and Digital download release through Mosher and Proffit’s own imprint,  California Country Records LLC.
