Hardwood Heart was born out of compulsion - a desire for guitarist Josh Clinger and mandolin player Jed Nussbaum to keep as musically active and exploratory as possible. Thicc from an early age, and gentle in nature, conventional social ladders proved challenging for a young Matthew Rieger. Homeschooled in the Pacific Northwest, he was nestled in the church and given nothing but praise. Drawing inspiration from Jeff Buckley, Paul Simon, and The Barr Brothers, he finds peace in the melancholy.
