On this September 13th, 2024, we mark the birthday of a towering figure in American music, Bill Monroe, the man whose name is forever bound to the creation of bluegrass. Born in Rosine, Kentucky, in 1911, Monroe was a force that shaped the soundscape of American folk, country, and beyond, casting shadows deep into the realms of rock and jam music. It is no stretch to say that without Monroe, the sonic evolution that gave rise to countless genres would be missing a crucial voice—a high, lonesome voice, as the hallmark of his sound came to be known.

Last week, Spafford delivered a memorable performance at the Adirondack Independence Music Festival in Lake George, NY, surprising the audience with an unexpected cover of Scissor Sisters' iconic anthem, “Take Your Mama.” The bold rendition infused a rock-heavy edge into their jam-centric set, creating a dynamic twist that left fans buzzing with excitement. The fusion of classic rock and improvisational jamming further showcased the band's versatility, leaving a lasting impression on the festival crowd.

The Greyboy Allstars, California’s iconic jazz-funk revivalists, will bring their electrifying sound to the Boulder Theater on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Formed in 1994 at San Diego’s Green Circle Bar, the band came together under the leadership of DJ Greyboy, who assembled a group of top local players to bring to life the revolutionary sounds of funk legends like Grant Green, Idris Muhammad, and James Brown’s J.B.’s.

This fall, Insight Editions will release Grateful Dead Tarot: The Official Deck and Guidebook, a unique tarot deck that merges the traditional elements of tarot with the vibrant, psychedelic aesthetic of the Grateful Dead.
