Colorado’s own Zach Heckendorf returns home to The Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO on Friday, June 24th with special guest Megan Burtt & The Cure For Love. Backed by his latest release UP! – EP, Heckendorf has been touring the country landing himself spots at major festivals such as Bonnaroo and Vertex.

His undeniable ability to energize a room, establishing a unique relationship with his audience led him to play Colorado’s biggest venues; sharing stages with Michael Franti, OAR, Rodrigo y Gabriela and more. Now with a full band, his dynamic range extends beyond acoustic-pop common ground and into a satisfyingly thorough and raucous sound.

Brent Cowles began playing the guitar at the age of 13. Within a year, he was writing his own music and playing in bands. At 17, Cowles began a solo career under the moniker You, Me and Apollo and played mostly in the southwest and west coast.

In 2011, You, Me and Apollo transitioned from a solo act to a full band. The band released a well-received debut EP titled Cards with Cheats and later a full-length album Sweet Honey. After a great ride and three years of touring the United States, and much to their fans dismay, the band called it quits.

After a short break from music, Cowles returned to his roots; standing on a stage, belting out his poetry. Cowles writes from a deep, raw, authentic place and marries it to a sound that is soulful, rocking and American. Cowles is currently working on new music and toward the release of a debut EP.

Cold Times Message from Brent:

"Cold Times is about the exclusivity we've created as a society. We've been divided and forced to pick sides. We're distracted from what is important by the screens we glue our faces to. We need to recognize the horrible to initiate change, and appreciate the beautiful. The times feel cold. Let's feel cold together." Brent Cowles

The Motet and Dopapod are thrilled to announce a co-headlining Fall Tour.  The two bands will  join forces for twelve shows throughout the months of October and November that will take them all along the East Coast and into the Midwest.  No strangers to collaborating, both bands have sat in with each other numerous times, but this Fall Tour marks the first time both bands will be sharing an extensive bill.

Dopapod keyboardist Eli Winderman remarks, “This is a dream tour we’ve been wanting to make happen for years and it’s so exciting to finally have it come together.  Not just because of the friendship between both bands over the years, but they’re all incredible players.  It’s going to be a blast getting to hang and watch them kill it night to night.”

The Motet’s singer Lyle Divinsky agrees, “This is going to be all out musical mayhem fueled by the backbeat of love.  These incredible men have been great friends of ours for a long time, and we cannot wait to see what kind of magic comes alive at these shows!”

Bridging the gap between retro funk & soul, while keeping a focused eye on the future of funk, The Motet has been touring in support of their latest single, Supernova.  The recent addition of singer Lyle Divinsky, who joined the band in 2016, fans the flames of this  already hot band.  His sinfully soulful voice and rich lyrics are powerfully prevalent  throughout Supernova and light up the performances of the 7-piece funk Powerhouse.  The Colorado-based band just sold out Red Rocks for the second time this past June.

2017 has been a busy year for Dopapod and marked by the return of drummer Neal “Fro” Evans.  As the original chemistry that laid the groundwork for bringing together a devoted, rabid fan base has been rekindled, the band has spent this year bringing their live show around the entire United States, all the while preparing material for their next release tentatively due out later this year.  Over the past few years, the band has received high accolades from taste making critics like Rolling Stone who named Dopapod “one of the best kept secrets of Bonnaroo”.  The Huffington Post notes their impact within the jam world as “exploding on the scene with their audience growing by the second”.

A full list of tour dates is below.  Pre-sale tickets are now available at the links below via both bands fan ticketing.  Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday, August 11 at 10:00am local time.

The Motet are Lyle Divinsky (vocals), Dave Watts (drums), Joey Porter (keyboards), Garrett Sayers (bass), Ryan Jalbert (guitar), Gabriel Mervine (trumpet), and Drew Sayers (saxophone).

Dopapod is Eli Winderman (vocals & keyboards), Rob Compa (vocals & guitar), Chuck Jones (bass), and Neal “Fro” Evans (drums).

Glass Dove are off of 7S Management (Dinosaur Jr., Tennis, American Authors) and have garnered acclaim from the likes of Earmilk, Culture Collide and Flood Magazine. ‘Terrible Secrets’ is produced by Grammy-winning producer (and The Roots’ former bassist) Owen Biddle and Josh Kaler (Butch Walker).

In the face of turbulence, a simple promise planted the seed for Glass Dove. Before Josh Benus assumed this musical identity, the Nashville-based indie rock artist found himself faced with a series of challenges.  In 2012, an emergency surgery took a dangerous turn that left Josh in critical condition.

Josh Benus

He encountered severe complications that led to an unexpectedly arduous recovery. After some agonizing months of healing, he taught himself how to sing again. “Lucky to be alive,” the next five years twisted and turned at high speed.  Josh’s health, as well as relationships, would further deteriorate before the storm finally passed. “After my experiences, I made a pact with myself,” he admits. “I decided there was no plan B -- It became clear to me how quick this could all disappear, and that there was no better time than now, to seriously pursue my art.”

After a hiatus from music, Josh commenced writing.  Serendipitously, producer Owen Biddle [The Roots, John Legend] approached him in early 2018.  They then retreated to the Smoky Mountains for a week of writing and recording. “All of these things were about to boil over,” he admits. “The only way I could deal with them was to immortalize them in song.  There was nothing more cathartic for me than being able to distill the bittersweet nature of the past five years into something uplifting.”

Debut single 'Cigarette Sunset’ featuring Liz Cooper highlights glitchy percussion bristles against the reverb of a heavenly harmony between Liz and Josh, as the track climaxes on an elegant and entrancing hook steeped in intoxicating nostalgia.

Latest release ‘Terrible Secrets’ is about those in power who divide us to maintain their privilege and how our inaction gives voice to “terrible secrets”. Benus reveals, "I’ve given up counting the number of mornings that I’ve read the news and come away feeling helpless.  I had no plans to write a political song, but I knew I had to do something to engage in the conversation and be a voice for those who don't have one. This song is about those in power who divide us to maintain their privilege, and how our inaction gives voice to 'Terrible Secrets’”. Produced by Owen Biddle along with Josh Kaler [Butch Walker] ‘Terrible Secrets’ features powerful lyrics, melancholy instrumentation and soaring ethereal harmonies, creating a deeply thought-provoking release.

Benus continues his path towards new personal and musical adventures.  As a meditation on life’s shadows, as an example of rock-solid craftsmanship and freewheeling imagination, he’s bringing listeners along with him as Glass Dove. ‘Terrible Secrets’ is currently available worldwide.

Lyle Divinsky and Dave Watts, Vocalist and Drummer from Denver-based funk and soul ensemble The Motet, have released a new single as Lyle & Dave – “Quarantine Fantasy”.  Listen HERE and Watch the lyric video HERE

The song is a unique, optimistic look at life in the social distancing era, and changed the way Lyle & Dave approached the writing, recording, and release process.  Recorded only a few days ago, “Quarantine Fantasy” captures a moment in time with retro-funk synths and provocative falsettos, meshing nostalgic and contemporary elements the way only The Motet progeny can.

“For me the process of writing this song was a very organic one,” Dave explains.  “I now have so much time on my hands, I’m able to do a lot more experimenting in my ‘music dungeon’ - I found myself playing a groove that felt so good I decided to record it. I did that for about 10 minutes, messing around with different fills and solo concepts. I then sat down and spent a couple of hours chopping it up into different sections, adding synth bass, rhythm keys and melody parts.  Once I had it built into a form that made sense, I sent it to Lyle and he worked his magic like only Lyle can do.  With just a little more tweaking it became the song you hear now.”

Lyle continues, “Life during quarantine has been crazy for everyone, and musicians have bore the brunt of that deeply.  Our livelihood halted, our careers put on hold.  That said, as a community we can’t let these times prevent us from taking these sour lemons we’ve been dealt to make some tasty lemon drop martinis.  We find opportunities to do things differently, find new ways of creating, and this is no exception.  Dave and I (with some help from my lady Jen) decided to put our minds together to show that while some of our dreams are put on hold, your Quarantine Fantasy is still a reality.”

With the release of Lyle & Dave’s new single, The Motet have also launched a campaign to help support their touring crew while the band is on intermission from shows, teaming up with Positive Legacy as part of their Positive Legacy COVID-19 Relief Campaign.

Toronto based live electronica band The New Deal are releasing “Isolation Suite” on June 26th, an EP of new music that was written, recorded, and mixed in isolation during Covid-19 quarantine.

“Isolation Suite was born out of a conversation with Dan where I suggested that I write a piece of music using only the instruments available to me in my studio (no sample libraries),” Jamie explains, “After a few weeks composing the movements with that mandate in mind, we realized that we had created something very special and unique to the environment that we all experienced through the first half of 2020.”

In contrast with the group’s first ‘TND3’ albums with new drummer Davide Di Renzo, which were all improvised, Isolation Suite is composed, with each musician having recorded their part separately in their respective home studios.

Jamie continues, “I was unsure how a band that thrives on in-person creative contact would fare trying to collaborate in separate studios but the process was practically seamless. A true testament to three musicians sharing a single creative mind.”

The Isolation Suite’s four movements culminate with a guest appearance on guitar from Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss.

June will be a busy month for The New Deal – they’ll be resuming “The Dan & Jamie Show”, a weekly series born out of quarantine where Jamie Shields and Dan Kurtz feature live Q&As with the band, chat about albums and select performances from the New Deal archive, special guests, rig rundowns, and their personal collection of the craziest moments on and off stage from past tours and festivals.

Upcoming episodes will include Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss (6/18), a preview of Isolation Suite on the eve of its release (6/25), “Coming to America with Jake Szufnarowski” (7/2) where the band will recount their early days with the talent buyer for the famed Wetlands in NYC, and a long-anticipated interview with original drummer Darren Shearer (July-TBD).

The weekly series takes place every Thursday via Facebook Live at 9:00 pm ET.

About the Band

The New Deal first began in Toronto in 1999, quickly gaining support from Toronto’s underground club scene as pioneers in electronica, recreating the DJ experience with live, improvised music. Soon the band brought their interpretation of Electro House, Trance, Breakbeat, and Drum & Bass to the US where they were embraced by the crowds at NYC’s Wetlands Preserve and cultivated a loyal following in the American jam scene.

After twelve years of touring, The New Deal took a hiatus in 2011; Dan spent much of the next few years touring the world with Electropop band Dragonette. When The New Deal returned to stages in 2014 they brought on board a new drummer in Dragonette’s Joel Stouffer. For three years, Dan, Jamie, and Joel enjoyed another successful round of touring and recording, and in 2017 Joel amicably parted ways to pursue other musical interests.

In 2018, The New Deal welcomed drummer extraordinaire Davide Di Renzo into the fold. After several months of shredding in the studio, the band played their first live shows with Davide in June 2019, and released their first new album Phoenix in September 2019. Following up the releases of Age of Discovery and Live: Charlotte

11.21.19 earlier this year, Isolation Suite continues the band’s prolific and long anticipated return.
