Grammy-nominated musician Grace Potter announced today the lineup for the 2017 Grand Point North music festival. The Trey Anastasio Band will join Potter, Dawes, Mondo Cozmo, Joseph, Hurray For The Riff Raff, Low Cut Connie, Son Little, and Tank & The Bangas for the annual festival, scheduled for September 16 and 17 at Burlington, Vermont’s Waterfront Park. Two day passes are currently on-sale; single day tickets go on-sale Friday, May 5 at 11am at www.highergroundmusic.com, by phone at 802-652-0777 or in person at the Higher Ground Box Office, 1214 Williston Rd., S. Burlington

In years past, Potter has headlined both Saturday and Sunday night at the Festival. This year, Potter will perform both nights, headlining Saturday night while Trey Anastasio Band (TAB) will headline Sunday’s lineup. This will be the first show for TAB in Burlington since in October, 2011. Potter has performed on several bills with Anastasio over the years.

"This is a very special year for Grand Point North,” said Grace Potter. “Growing up, I went to countless Phish concerts and the band was synonymous with the vibrant Vermont music scene. It's truly humbling to come full circle and have Trey headline Sunday at the Waterfront. I have a feeling this year is going to be one for the books."

The Trey Anastasio Band was born in Burlington, VT. In addition to Anastasio, TAB features several musicians with Burlington roots, including drummer Russ Lawton, bassist Tony Markellis, keyboardist Ray Paczkowski and trumpeter/vocalist Jennifer Hartswick. The band recently kicked of its 2017 tour, behind Anastasio’s 10th solo full-length album Paper Wheels.   In addition to Lawton, Markellis, Paczkowski and Hartswick, Paper Wheels features trombonist/vocalist Natalie Cressman, multi-instrumentalist James Casey and percussionist Cyro Baptista.

Continuing its tradition of showcasing homegrown talent, this year's lineup at Grand Point North will also include a strong representation of acts from Vermont making their mark on the local music scene. Local acts performing this year include smalltalker, Lake Superior, SnakeFoot, Henry Jamison, Barika, The Welterweights and Eastern Mountain Time.

For the fifth year in a row, Grace Potter has partnered with Seven Days, Vermont's free, alternative newsweekly, to give fans a chance to choose one lucky Vermont musician or band to kick off this year's Grand Point North festival. Postal, a finalist in the Bravo network shows Around the World in 80 Plates, was also the executive chef at Boston’s landmark Fenway Park.

“With Festival at the Farm, our goal is to give music fans of all ages the chance to escape the everyday, to enjoy a weekend of live music, and experiences focused on simple pleasures and good times,” said James Macdonald, founder of Six Chair Productions.  “It’s going to be another amazing weekend at Prowse Farm and we can’t wait to see everyone there.”

Festival at the Farm is a weekend-long celebration, with live music and a focus on great food and unique experiences for all ages. Inspired by Pete and Gerry’s free range hens, who have ample room to roam on green pasture, the Free Range Kids Zone will feature kid’s entertainers, hands-on games, magic shows, storytelling with Big Joe the Storyteller, animal shows, a pop-up bookstore and much more.

Six Chair Productions is a Boston-based entertainment company founded in 2016 by music business veteran James Macdonald that specializes in festival development, artist management and musically-minded brand experiences. It was Macdonald’s previous experience managing the much-loved Life is Good Festival at Prowse Farm that brought him back to the location to develop Festival at the Farm.

Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs is a fourth-generation family farm in the foothills of the White Mountains in Monroe, N.H. Today, all of Pete and Gerry’s Certified Humane Free Range Organic eggs come from other small family farmers in New England who follow the strictest standards of humane animal treatment, safety, and environmental sustainability. Pete and Gerry’s believes hens deserve a safe, comfortable place to live a happy, healthy life – and that our family farmers deserve the right to keep their lands and livelihoods without having to resort to unhealthy factory-farm practices.

“As a local company, we jumped at the chance to be a part of The Festival at the Farm,” said Jesse Laflamme, Chief Executive Farmer of Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs. “This event aligns so well with who we are as a company - family-led, a focus on local, organic and humane food provided by real family farms - and we look forward to sharing our eggs with everyone at the festival.”

Festival at the Farm takes place at historic Prowse Farm in Canton, a 44-acre property managed by the Friends of Prowse Farm, a non-profit volunteer organization. The property is located at the gateway of the Blue Hills Reservation, public parkland that has been set aside for recreational use. Free parking is available on the Prowse Farm grounds.

After channeling the elemental energy of their ever-swelling fanbase to carry out what's undoubtedly the band's most ambitious musical mission to date, Adam Ezra Group is poised to unleash the full force of their 15th album "Hurricane Wind," which will be released, free of charge for two weeks, through NoiseTrade on Sunday, May 21st.

"Hurricane Wind," which has been not only fan-funded but also fan-produced, is the sonic manifestation of Adam Ezra Group's intrinsic dedication to that fan community they love so dearly. Together, they've long-shared a crucial, galvanizing belief: that making music together is itself a form of grassroots organizing, capable of nothing less than changing the world.

For the Boston-based rockers, such an innovative, inclusive approach to releasing music is right on target. This roots-steeped, road-trippin' collective of musicians has been powering past expectations and breaking down barriers for over a decade now, all the while staying true to their belief in the importance of crafting rawly truthful music, giving back to the world around them, and building an unwavering, unaffected community of listeners.

Recently, the group's songwriting and activism caught the eye of John Oates, of Hall & Oates fame. For the past year and a half, Ezra and Oates have been regular writing partners, meeting up in Nashville between tours. Three of their co-writes are featured on "Hurricane Wind," and Oates himself joined Ezra in the studio to sing and play on the album. They performed their first co-written song, "All I Am", live in-studio as an acoustic duet, a process also shared with fans, who were invited along for a virtual tour of the studio as well as granted access to unreleased studio performances.

Last December, AEG galvanized their community partnership by releasing 23 studio demos to fans, including multiple collaborations with Oates. Ezra established an innovative framework through which fans could follow the process of song arrangement and studio tracking, help whittle the album down to just 11 polished final cuts, steer artwork creation, and assist in naming the project itself.

The now-cemented title, "Hurricane Wind," speaks to an elemental, overpowering force of nature, a quality AEG believes exists in every human being and can be magnified when infused with music and community.  From foot-stomping sing-along "Steal Your Daughter" to life-affirming anthem "I Believe" and tender "You Speak Girl," "Hurricane Wind" is a truly communal experience, its songs as aw ash in big-hearted, full-throated storytelling as they are anchored by exhilarating instrumentation and frontman Adam Ezra's warm, earnest vocals.

"Hurricane Wind" will be available for download for free from May 21st to June 2nd through NoiseTrade from the Adam Ezra Group website. and at www.noisetrade.com/adamezragroup/hurricane-wind

On August 1st, Jerry Garcia would be turning 75 years old. Five dynamic acts come will come together at historic Club Passim, joining musicians and fans around the world to celebrate  and remember the legacy of Jerry Garcia as a songwriter, guitarist, and roots music explorer– with the Grateful Dead and beyond.

JEFFREY PEPPER RODGERS, grand prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and founding editor of Acoustic Guitar magazine, will perform with his duo partner Wendy Sassafras Ramsay. Rodgers interviewed both Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir and is the author of a Homespun video series teaching acoustic arrangements of Grateful Dead songs.

CELIA WOODSMITH is a Grammy– nominated singer and songwriter known for her work in the bluegrass band Della Mae. She will be accompanied by guitarist Chris Hersh, her bandmate in the roots-rock band Say Darling.

GREG KLYMA is a prolific songwriter, multi– instrumentalist, and seasoned performer. His birth date puts him squarely in the middle of generation X, but Klyma is an old-school troubadour.

RYAN FITZSIMMONS, in the words of Boston’s Red Line Roots, is “a brutal force of nature on acoustic guitar. Often breaking multiple strings during a performance, he plays with a fire and fierceness that cannot be tamed, or faked for that matter. There is no doubt that Ryan is as enticing a musician as they come.”

SPOTTED TIGER is the Boston– based band led by violist Laurence Scudder and guitarist Erik White, of the Brothers McCann. Together they play an eclectic mix of originals and hand-picked covers.

About Passim

Located in Harvard Square, Passim serves Cambridge and the broader region by featuring local, national and international artists. The festival has been designed with families in mind, teaming up with Kids Really Rock to present a very special kids concert each day.  The Kids Really Rock All-Star Jam will feature Karen K. and the Jitterbugs alongside a who’s who of New England Kids musical artists. Artists for the Kids Really Rock All-Star Jam will be announced next month.

The Free Range Kids Zone, inspired by Pete and Gerry’s free range hens who have ample room to roam on the farm, will feature a host of interactive games and activities including face-painting, storytelling, and magic shows, as well as hen petting with Pete and Gerry’s Organic hens and Meet-A-Farmer, providing families the opportunity to interact with a Pete and Gerry’s Organic farmer.

Commonwealth Cambridge owner and chef Nookie Postal will return to Festival at the Farm in 2018 to create a farm-to-table dining experience in the festival’s VIP area.  VIP ticket holders will also enjoy preferred concert viewing and a private bar and lounge along with other amenities.

In addition to enjoying great music and activities onsite, attendees will help provide 100,000 meals to those in need.  A portion of every ticket sold will be donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank and Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs will donate one dozen eggs for every ticket sold. Fans will be able to take part in the fundraising by making online donations at ticketing checkout as well as through select activities at the festival.

In honor of their second annual On The Ocean weekend, renowned rock band Guster is partnering with Mast Landing Brewing Company to produce ‘On The Ocean’ Pale Ale.  The beer will officially be launched at Guster’s concert at the State Theatre on Friday, August 3rd, and will be available at select bars and restaurants throughout the Portland area.

Mast Landing Brewing Company opened in early 2016 and quickly became one of Maine’s top breweries. With a mainly hop-forward lineup of beers, Mast Landing also brews one of the most sought-after milk stouts in New England. In only 2 and half years, the brewery has gone through two large production expansions and was the fastest growing Maine Brewery in 2017.

“I fell in love with Mast Landing's ‘Green To Green’ IPA and happened to meet the owners at a concert,” said Guster’s Adam Gardner, who will be at the Westbrook, Maine brewery on July 17th to help make the first batch of On The Ocean Pale Ale.   “It turns out they're Guster fans - though I think I was even more excited to meet them than they were me!  The conversation very quickly shifted into how we could collaborate on a special ‘On The Ocean’ beer.  After tasting everything they’ve been making, we came up with a very flavorful and tropical, easy drinking pale ale. We think it will pair great with a summer weekend on the ocean in Maine!”

On Saturday, August 4th, Mast Landing will host a special release party at the brewery for fans who participate in that morning’s Reverb service project.  Reverb, the environmental organization founded by Gardner and his wife, Lauren Sullivan, engages with concertgoers to take action for the environment.  10% of the proceeds from each can of ‘On The Ocean’ Pale Ale will benefit Reverb.

“As Guster fans since high school, we’re beyond excited to be able to collaborate with the band to brew such an awesome beer and be part of such an amazing weekend in Portland,’ said Ian Dorsey, president and founder of Mast Landing Brewing Company. “It’s been great to work with Adam and the rest of Guster through every part of the brewing process, and we all think both Guster fans and beer fans alike will really enjoy it!”

On The Ocean weekend also includes Guster’s return to Thompson’s Point with  Kishi Bashi, The Secret Sisters and Rest Assured, the winners of the Maine Academy of Modern Music’s 2018 MAMM SLAM: Maine's High School Rock Off. The weekend wraps up on Sunday with Guster Day at Hadlock Field, the home of minor league baseball’s Portland Sea Dogs.

On what would have been his 76th birthday, Club Passim will present local musicians celebrating the legacy of Grateful Dead founder, Jerry Garcia. An eclectic roster of artists will revisit the folk roots of Garcia, who went on to create a unique and iconic American songbook both through his work with the Dead and in his solo projects. Among the artists reinterpreting Garcia’s work are Hayley Jane, Greg Klyma, Ryan Fitzsimmons, Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers and Spotted Tiger.

Garcia’s folk roots began with his involvement in the Sleepy Hollow Hog Stompers, the Hart Valley Drifters, the Wildwood Boys and Black Mountain Boys, all while still primarily making his living giving banjo lessons at Dana Morgan Music in Palo Alto, CA. It was there that the roots of the Grateful Dead would form, first as Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions before becoming the Warlocks and eventually the Grateful Dead. Bluegrass and the banjo would remain an ongoing interest for Garcia as he formed Old & In The Way with formidable talents such as Peter Rowan and David Grisman during the Dead’s 1970’s heyday.

The diversity of Garcia’s musical interests is incorporated into this 2nd annual celebration. Hayley Jane is a rising star of the jam-band scene with Hayley Jane and the Primates, as well as a duo partner with Ryan Montbleau in Yes Darling. Greg Klyma is steeped in the traditions of outlaw country and troubadour folk, while Ryan Fitzsimmons delivers an intensity on acoustic guitar that recalls the eventual emergence of--and influence on--rock n’ roll from the folk scene.

Spotted Tiger combines the talents of violist Laurence Scudder (former touring member of the Ryan Montbleau Band) and guitarist Erik White, of Brothers McCann. And Jeffrey

Pepper Rodgers, the founding editor of Acoustic Guitar magazine, has not only produced a video series teaching Grateful Dead songs on acoustic guitar but has interviewed both Garcia and fellow Grateful Dead founding member Bob Weir.

This celebration of Garcia’s birthday is particularly appropriate given the recent Round Records release of, “Before the Dead,” a collection of the artist’s work with his Grateful Dead predecessors as well as folk duets with his first wife under the stage name, Jerry & Sara. Round Records was originally formed in tandem with Grateful Dead records during the 1970’s as a conduit for band members’ solo projects and after a long hiatus has recently been resurrected in conjunction with the Garcia Estate.

Tickets for Jerry Garcia Birthday Tribute Night at Club Passim are $20 ($18 for members) and are available at www.clubpassim.org, by calling 617-492-7679 (9:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday) or at the Club Passim box office sixty minutes before the show begins. Club Passim is located in Harvard Square at 47 Palmer St., Cambridge, MA 02138.

Boston’s Independent Radio, WXRV/92.5 the River announced that long-time station favorites Barenaked Ladies will headline their 17th Annual Newburyport Riverfront Music Festival on Saturday, September 1st at Waterfront Park. Phillip Phillips, Anderson East and The Aldous Collins Band round out the bill for the free festival which runs from 12PM to 6:30PM.  The announcement was made as part of “The Big Reveal,” a special hour long show with morning host Dana Marshall.

Canadian rockers Barenaked Ladies were recently awarded Canada’s highest musical honor with their induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2018 Juno Awards. The event celebrated the band’s impressive achievements over their 30-year career including Juno Award wins, Grammy nominations, 15 million albums sold worldwide and a long string of hit songs like “If I had $1,000,000,” “One Week,” “Brian Wilson,” “The Old Apartment,” and more.  The band’s 15th studio album, “Fake Nudes,” was released last fall.

“We’re thrilled to have Barenaked Ladies celebrate their 30th year together with us in Newburyport. The group has been beloved by River listeners since we signed on-air,” said Marshall.  “With Barenaked Ladies, Phillip Phillips, Anderson East and The Aldous Collins Band, we are going to have a festival filled with really talented musicians performing incredibly great songs.”

Phillip Phillips, winner of the 11th season of “American Idol” and the owner of the biggest selling single in “Idol” history, “Home,” is currently touring in support of his third album, “Collateral,” which was released in January.  The Georgia native has often drawn comparisons to Dave Matthews.

Eclectic southern soul and roots rocker Anderson East is a River rising star; his song “All On My Mind” rose to the top of the Adult Rock radio chart.  Known for his songwriting collaborations with people like Chris Stapleton, Natalie Hemby, Ed Sheeran and Johnny McDaid, his most recent single, “Girlfriend,” was co-written with producer David Cobb, Aaron Raitiere and Avicii.

Hailing from the South Shore, The Aldous Collins Band will open the festival.  Known for their explosive live show filled with fun and high energy filled music, the strength of the band lies in its uncanny ability to connect with the audience through infectious songs and the dynamic front man Aldous Collins.

Presented by 92.5 the River, with the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Bud Light, the Newburyport Riverfront Music Festival has become a summer staple for River listeners arriving early to spend the day.  In addition to the music, attendees can sample delicious goodies from local food vendors along Merrimac Street, and enjoy a cold beverage in the Bud Light Beer Garden.  Previous performers of the festival have included Matt Nathanson, Eric Hutchinson, Fastball, They Might Be Giants, Toad the Wet Sprocket, English Beat, Matt Kearny, Blind Melon, The Lemonheads, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, Kaleo, The Revivalists, Rhett Miller, and more.

Since 1995, WXRV/92.5 the River has been Boston’s independent radio choice playing a mix of alternative, acoustic, blues, folk, reggae, and other genres of music.  The station’s playlist combines current releases from today’s artists, in addition to favorites from the '80s and '90s, and even a few deep album cuts from the '60s and '70s.
