Cousin Earth, one of the rising stars of Brooklyn's current "Jam Renaissance," have announced the 2018 release of their long awaited full-length album, "Human Music." The album will feature artwork by Dean Arscott, a Florida artist known for his sand sculpture and illustrations, most notably, the album art for Dopapod's "Drawn Onward" and "Redivider."

"Human Music," will feature 10 new original songs that weave in and out of many genres giving listeners much of the music that humanity has to offer. The art concept imagines the band as extraterrestrial beings wearing human costumes, elating the audience while invading their minds with out-of-this world musical stylings. The album will be available on all platforms sometime in early 2018.

"We were really impressed with Dean's artwork for both Dopapod and our friends NoNeed," says Joey Calfa, who plays ukulele and guitar in Cousin Earth. "His style compliments our weird sci-fi aesthetic perfectly. We were so excited, we just had to share it!"

Cousin Earth is releasing their first single from "Human Music" on February 12th, 2018. As a part of their official announcement of the album's release, "Train Luck" will be released on Facebook and Youtube as a Lyric Video.

ABOUT THE ALBUM

"Human Music" features some staples from the Cousin Earth repertoire such as their face-melting "Capricorn on the Cob" and "Puerto Rican Pancakes," a Latin Jazz inspired pop song that has been with the band since their beginning. The album will also include newer songs like "Peculiar Patterns," a genre bending dance song with soaring vocals and "Train Luck," a Frank Zappa style rebuke of the New York City MTA. The record will also boast some guest appearances by Jon Schmarak (FiKus) on synth and horns as well as sax player, Jeff Gordon (NYC Ska Orchestra).

Cousin Earth began production on "Human Music," in December of 2016 at R.E.I. and Audio Workstations in Islandia, NY. Matt Einsidler, the band's long time engineer recorded, mixed, and co-produced while Adam Ayan (Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, the Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam) of Gateway Mastering Studios put the finishing touches on the album.

On Monday, June 1, 2020, Cousin Earth will release their new single worldwide for the song, "Bacon, Cat Food & Cheese."  It will be available on all streaming platforms and accompanied by an absurdist video featuring the individual band members in quarantine. The video debuts 3 days early at Noon on Friday, May 29 via Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube, along with an audio pre-release on Cousin Earth's Bandcamp.

The band is also streaming an online zoom meeting dubbed "Bacon, Catfood & Chill" at 8pm on Monday, June 1 via their socials.  Special guests are expected.

The song, clocking in at nearly 8 minutes, showcases all the things fans have come to love about Cousin Earth: layered vocal harmonies, extended improvisation, and humorous lyrics.  "Bacon, Cat Food & Cheese" had recently entered the band's repertoire juxtaposing a downtempo funk song with an upbeat dance-jam vehicle.  It was also featured in several shows as a quirky but party-hard late set jammer.

Cousin Earth | Brooklyn, NY

The lyrical concept started as an inside joke, that became a meme, that became a ridiculous song about the internal strife of eating a sandwich that could definitely be better.  At a time when so much is uncertain in the world, Cousin Earth took a silly moment from the tour and turned it into a metaphor about life that seems all-too-fitting right now.  Without gigs to support them, this Zappa-esque project shows no remorse in pointing out the absurdity in our current isolation as a society.

"Bacon, Cat Food & Cheese" was recorded at Call Hollow Studios in Pomona, NY.  The studio is gaining popularity for its Facebook live performances showcasing Cousin Earth's ukulele player Joe Calfa.  Joe streams with his housemates every Saturday at 9 pm.  That quarantine side project is entitled "Joe, Ryan, Tash, and Dan GO LIVE" and features members of ShwizZ, Bobby Deitch Band, and Dead Meat.
