Following two years of extensive collection and categorization, the Atlanta University Center (AUC) Robert W. Woodruff Library announces the opening of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Collection on the fifteenth anniversary of the death of the platinum recording artist, actor and poet who remains one of the most influential writers and performers in the hip hop/rap genre.Spanning a period from 1969 to 2008, this remarkable collection includes song lyrics, poems, track lists and video treatments, as well as manuscripts by Shakur family members and members of the rap groups Dramacydal and the Outlawz. Memorabilia, correspondence to and from Shakur, fan mail, media clippings and publicity materials are also included. Particularly noteworthy items within the collection are a handwritten video treatment for “Dear Mama,” his song that was inducted into the Library of Congress collection; a notebook of songs eventually recorded for Shakur’s immensely successful 2Pacalypse Now album; and handwritten drafts of poems included in The Rose That Grew from Concrete. The Shakur Collection represents a partnership between the AUC Woodruff Library and the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation to make available for scholarly research the manuscript writings and other papers of Shakur. The collection is extensive and comprises approximately 11 linear feet, with 30 boxes of materials, and has the distinction of being one of the few publicly available research collections of an individual hip hop artist.Born in East Harlem, New York, Shakur first came to prominence in the early 1990s as a featured rapper for the vocal group Digital Underground and went on to become one of the most significant cultural icons of the hip hop generation. Prior to his untimely death at the age of 25, Shakur released five record albums and appeared in four motion pictures.Ten albums, numerous compilations and four feature films have been released posthumously, including Tupac: Resurrection, which received an Academy Award nomination for “Best Documentary (Feature)” in 2005.“We’re honored to have partnered with the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation to preserve the artistic legacy of Tupac Shakur through this collection,” said Loretta Parham, CEO and Library Director. “He transformed the landscape of hip hop culture and was one of the most compelling voices and talents of his generation. As an academic library, we feel privileged to be the stewards of the Shakur Collection and to promote for scholarly research.”Vernal Cambridge, Executive Director of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation adds, "We are excited about the centralization of Tupac's massive body of work and materials. The Tupac estate has done a great job at preserving his history. Similar to his albums, and documentary film, Tupac: Resurrection, this unique collection gives Tupac another opportunity to tell his story in his own words. The lessons that students, researchers, and fans can learn from this close and personal look at his writings are invaluable."The collection is available for research in digital and original formats in the AUC Woodruff Library’s Archives Research Center Reading Room. For inquiries about researching the collection, e-mail the Archives Research Center at [email protected] or call 404-978-2052.### About the Tupac Amaru Shakur FoundationThe Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation is home to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, just outside of Atlanta in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Hold Up Art presents Boys and Dogs, a collection of works by world renowned photographer Sunny Bak. Her photos of the Beastie Boys and the “Licensed to Ill” tour solidified Sunny’s place as a serious rock and celebrity photographer. Simultaneously, her love of animals, especially dogs, led to the creation of the best selling People Magazine parody, Pupple. These two diverse collections of images represent the work that have defined Sunny’s career.

“It's been 25 years since I looked at the images I shot of the Beastie Boys in NYC with Garrett Simmons when we were working on a book called Pupple,” says Sunny Bak of this new exhibition. “This show is part retrospective and part looking toward the future as Garrett and I are working on a follow up to the original Pupple. It's an homage to the beasty in all of us.”

Photographing celebrities since high school, Sunny has shot celebrities like Madonna, 10,000 Maniacs, Gregory Peck, Keanu Reeves, Seth Green, and Carol Alt.  She spent time on the road with the up-and-coming The Beastie Boys on their 1986 “Licensed to Ill” tour. Sunny shot the iconic images that were featured in the multi-platinum album’s artwork.

“Within the context of our culture, from Kanye, to Banksy to Obama, hip hop is an undeniable pillar of our culture,” says Hold Up Art curator Brian Lee. “Though many people overlook the 80s hip hop scene as being dated and over-played, too much of our contemporary notions of the ‘artist,’ and issues of ‘anti-authority’ that color the way we perceive the Shepard Fairey's of the day, are informed directly by the attitude and movement of the genre. Sunny Bak's photos follow the Beastie's during their late 80s ‘Licensed to Ill’ tour, offering a very intimate perspective on such a ground-breaking time.  Whether it is our distance in time or the closeness Sunny shared with The Beastie Boys, Bak's photos bring you closer to understanding who these three guys really were, aside from their music videos.  The photos reveal the personal side of them, and a universal story of youth, potential, and the American Dream.”

Thanks to the efforts of Gram's daughter, Polly Parsons via The Gram Parsons Foundation, supporters and fans now have an online destination for everything Gram Parsons; from music to photographs, from videos to social networking. Due to an overwhelming demand, The Gram Parsons Official Website was set up to honor Gram, often noted as the pioneer of "country rock,” as an iconic musical trailblazer.  The Gram Parsons Foundation has the great pleasure of introducing an online community where people can  share stories, photos and knowledge about this legendary musician. This is a fan resource as much as a tribute, offering tribute concert and fan gathering updates and to-the-moment Twitter and RSS Feeds. The demand created by the current musical community will allow fans of Gram to gather and discuss everything from the new Emmylou Harris record and her song about Gram, to indie bands like Blitzen TrapperFleet FoxesDawes and Mumford & Sons, who have all cited influences by or have garnered some press comparisons to Gram.

“Over the last few years, fans have been requesting for an official online destination to connect with my father and his music. My sincere wish is that this site becomes a wonderful place to visit, hang a while, read stories from those closest to him and the musicians that love him, listen to music, learn about and BE with Gram,” says Gram Parsons daughter, Polly, in a letter to visitors on the sites home page, “My father would love to know you're visiting!”

The site's home page features the live RSS and Twitter feeds, documenting the constant activity about Gram, as well as hosting Gram TV, which is currently "playing" a clip reel from the 2004 tribute concerts which featured Keith RichardsNorah JonesLucinda WilliamsDwight Yoakum and others. The foundation’s goal for Gram TV is to update content to feature the up and coming artists who are inspired by Gram’s music.

The site also features a music page, streaming songs and lyrics from Sweetheart of the Rodeo (The Byrds), Safe at Home (The International Submarine Band), Gilded Palace of Sin and Burrito Deluxe (The Flying Burrito Brothers), and the solo albums GP and Return of the Grievous Angel. The archive tab for The Official Gram Parsons Website opens a treasure trove of online content, ranging from videos hosted on the Gram Parsons Official YouTube channel, streaming interviews with Gram, Gram Parsons quotes, articles and photographs. There will soon be an online store with Official Gram Parsons merchandise along with a "gift" to all the long standing fans in time to mark what would have been Gram's sixty-fifth birthday on November 5.

The mission of The Gram Parsons Foundation is to support musicians and artists from around the world with addiction and recovery services. The foundation's dedication to helping those with substance abuse issues is further shown at Polly Parsons' Hickory Wind Ranch, the premiere sober living homes for men and women in Austin, TX. It was only natural that Polly was driven to provide support and a nurturing environment by helping other members of the artistic community in need - a full circle moment. The goal of Hickory Wind Ranch is to help every member of their community learn how to live a full and rich sober life and to achieve physical, emotional and spiritual balance. Hickory Wind Ranch is proud to share their gift to the community through their involvement with A&E's Intervention.

Naama Kates is a Los Angeles transplant whose move from New York left her feeling lost and lonely; feelings that inspired the songs that would become her debut album, “The Unexamined Life.” A tongue-in-cheek take on Socrates’ “an unexamined life is not worth living,” Naama spent a year reflecting on her life and the path that she had chosen.“My life was nothing but examined,” shares Kates. “I had just moved to Los Angeles and everything that I was feeling got written into a song; my personal therapy. What I write tells me what I’m thinking, reflects what I’m going through.”What started with a small keyboard that Kates purchased at Guitar Center led to an impressive catalogue of original songs about universal themes, such as loneliness and unrequited love. Written with a soft touch and a slight edge, Kates’ take on subject matter that could be dreary is light and hopeful, which is further elevated by her superb arrangements. It was her impeccably crafted songwriting and unique outlook that caught the attention of producer Cyrus Melchor (Mount Cyanide).Although Kates admits that her first time in the recording studio for “The Unexamined Life” was a nerve-wracking experience, it was also a dream come true.“I was in this really professional recording studio, and it’s everybody’s time and money on the line,” she says. “This was my first time out, but it was great, too. I mean, I got to play and record on the same piano that Tori Amos used when she recorded ‘Little Earthquakes.’ We had this Grammy Award-winning engineer (Hugo Nicholson) with us. It was an amazing experience.”An accomplished actress, Kates also has two films on the festival circuit; the first, Eden, premiered at SXSW. The second film, The 10 Commandments of Chloe, for which the actress was awarded an Indie Fest Merit Award for Best Lead Actress in a Feature Film for her performance as Chloe, was also produced by Kates, who also wrote the music for the piece. She teamed up with the film’s award-winning director, Princeton Holt, on the video for the first single from the new album, “Before You Lose It.”An indie ballad about the importance of speaking up and taking advantage of opportunities before they’ve passed, “Before You Lose It,” is one of the more somber tracks from the album. The video opens in stark black and white, but gives way to colorful flashbacks and stunningly shot moments of enlightenment, capturing the intricate balance of emotions in the song.

Seminal British rock band, The Stone Roses, announced their reunion tour earlier this year, to the delight of their faithful fans. Perhaps the most important stop on this international tour is Heaton Park in their hometown of Manchester, UK. Their homecoming is being celebrated by three consecutive sold-out shows on Friday, June 29, Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1, 2012.The Stone Roses asked reggae royalty and one of their musical influences, The Wailers, to support them for this homecoming weekend. The Wailers have influenced generations of musicians, The Stone Roses included. This unlikely pairing is a result of The Stone Roses front man Ian Brown and Mani having learned bass by playing along to Family Man’s bass patterns in some of reggae’s most revered songs. Playing with a band that considers them a musical influence is an opportunity that embodies everything the Wailers believe about the power of music. Wailers lead singer, Koolant Brown, says “music is a shared experience meant to spread peace and love to all.” There is no better way of showing audiences the power of music than to join with other musicians who share in its mission. When asked about being a musical influence, Family Man said “Reggae’s got soul, funk, R&B, jazz, and elements of so many other genres. Reggae music is a mix of all types of music from different cultures, which is why people love it so much. Music is the magic, it is the oxygen of the people –it’s the message of roots culture and reality.”The Wailers will be performing at all three shows in Manchester, and are looking forward to the opportunity to spread the message of peace, love, and redemption through their music. Looking at the international impact of the Wailers’ music, Family Man says “It is like a prophecy fulfilled. We have been given a mission to spread the messages of roots, culture and reality for the healing of the hurt, and that is being done with every show. We are chosen for that mission, and it must be done. Playing around the world continues that mission.”For a full list of the Wailers’ UK tour dates, see below:The Wailers 2012 European Summer TourThurs, June 28                 Brighton, UNITED KINGDOM- Concorde 2Fri, June 29                       Manchester, UNITED KINGDOM - Heaton Park [with The Stone Roses]Sat, June 30                     Manchester, UNITED KINGDOM - Heaton Park [with The Stone Roses]Sun, July 1                        Manchester, UNITED KINGDOM - Heaton Park [with The Stone Roses]Tues, July 3                      Bristol, UNITED KINGDOM- Bristol AcademyWed, July 4                       London, UNITED KINGDOM - Shepherd’s Bush EmpireThurs, July 5                     Dublin, IRELAND- Phoenix Park [with The Stone Roses]Fri, July 6                           Leeds, UNITED KINGDOM- Leeds AcademySat, July 7                         Balado, Kinross, SCOTLAND- T in the Park Festival [with The Stone Roses]

Indie Pop Rock duo, SIRSY, is known for their whirlwind live performances, playing an astounding two-hundred tour dates a year, and their new album, “Coming Into Frame”, brings the power and energy of singer/drummer Melanie ‘Mel’ Krahmer and guitarist Rich Libutti into the studio. The powerhouse performers give credit to Grammy-winning producers Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade (Hole, Radiohead, Dresden Dolls, Pixies) for knowing just how to work with them in the studio, harnessing the tornado-like energy that comes across on stage.

“Our fans have said that the energy of our live show hasn’t translated onto our previous recordings,” states Mel and Rich. “They are going to notice a different energy level on this record because of how Paul and Sean worked with us.”

SIRSY delivers hook-drenched, resonating melodies and clever, honest lyrics, writing songs that run the gamut from wildly joyful to utterly heartbreaking. Known for singing and playing drums, while standing, and handling bass (on a keyboard, played with a drumstick), Mel is also known to throw in a flute solo. Her manic energy is grounded by Rich’s solid, yet seething, guitar playing. He also performs bass with a keyboard at his feet. Together, they create a dynamically full sound that resonates like a five piece band. Mel is endorsed by Vater Percussion and has been featured in Modern Drummer Magazine.

Normally headliners, SIRSY has shared the stage with and appeared as special guests of artists such as Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Maroon 5, Train, RaRaRiot, Boys Like Girls, Third Eye Blind, Lifehouse, Blues Traveler, and Cheap Trick.

SIRSY’s latest release, “Coming Into Frame”, will drop later this spring, and the duo is mounting a nationwide tour in support of the album. Mel and Rich are stepping out of their east coast/mid-west comfort zone and will be performing in the south and on the west coast for this tour. For more information and tour dates, please visit www.sirsy.com.

Shauna Case is one of the stars of Nick Cannon's sketch comedy show, Incredible Crew, on Cartoon Network, but the young performer and rising star has been dancing and singing for far longer. The fifteen year-old performer began singing in the theatre in her hometown of Erie, PA, and dipped her toes into acting when her family moved to Los Angeles three years ago. Unwilling to let acting or dancing take focus over her singing, she began working with Billboard Award-winning and Grammy-nominated producer Eddie Galan on a five-track EP - "Some Kind of Fairytale."

Shauna's music is country-infused pop, similar to the music of her idols, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Lady Antebellum. The title track and first single, "Some Kind of Fairytale," which is also Shauna's first music video, is a catchy 'perfect-for-summer' track. The song is somewhat autobiographical, following a girl who leaves a small town to chase her dreams in the big city. Shauna co-wrote this song with Eddie and Adia Haynie.

"I tried to have a hand in most of the songs," shares Shauna. "I wanted to make sure I felt connected to each track. My goal is to tell stories and connect with my fans. With 'Some Kind of Fairytale' I really want people to think about making their dreams come true."

Shauna is not looking for the easiest way to the top. Building a community on her social media sites through grass-roots efforts, Shauna's success has come to her organically. It is the only way to inspire others to work hard to achieve their dreams, and that is more important to her than being an overnight sensation.

"It is very important to me to be true to who I am," says Shauna. "Hard work is necessary to achieve your goals. It's not a bad thing."

Shauna's desire to inspire others has also led her to become a Celebrity Ambassador for SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education), a member of the National Council on Suicide Prevention. She knows first hand what it is like to live with a family member who battles depression. By joining SAVE, Shauna hopes to help others find the resources they need for themselves or their loved ones, as well as to share a message of hope.

Shauna Case's self-titled EP will be available on i-Tunes and other online retailers on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.

Today John Cooper Clarke is adored across Europe as an elder statesman of subversive art, and the witty, political poet of the first UK punk movement whose blazing creativity has survived a bumpy ride. His poetry was born in those wild 1970s street-fighting days and Cooper Clarke has not returned to America since then. But here he comes again, the incendiary punk performance poet, actor and social satirist, to delight America with a new download release of a DVD, ‘Live in London.’ Recorded at a legendary concert, it features performance of his sardonic, hilarious and revealing poems, both old and new. He is introducing the new release to America with 6 East Coast U.S. dates.

You may only have heard Cooper Clarke’s dry Mancunian wit on the final moments of the HBO Series, ‘The Sopranos,’ but across Europe, and among Americans in the know, John Cooper Clark is the poetic political voice of several generations. Cooper Clarke is currently enjoying a great renaissance. He arrives fresh from an extensive sell-out tour of the UK and Ireland, showcasing new poems that were as enthusiastically received as his classics. His fervent admirers include fellow artists for whom he has become a cultural touchstone, like British actor Steve Coogan, who said, " I ask people if they've heard of John Cooper Clark and if they say, 'Yes, he's a genius!' I say, Thank you. You've just saved me a lot of time."

It’s been an intriguing journey since his wry social observation, fired off in a smart, staccato rhythm, first got Cooper Clarke called a punk poet. He worked and toured with leading movement voices like the Sex Pistols, the Clash, Elvis Costello, Richard Hell and Joy Division, whose producer, fellow Mancunian Martin Hannett, also of U2 fame, was musical director of Cooper Clarke’s band, the Invisible Girls. Cooper Clarke’s poetic credentials were cemented by tours with the great American Beat poets Allen Ginsburg and Gregory Corso, effectively hailing the younger Mancunian as their successor.

His first poem came out on an indie label in Manchester, and Cooper Clarke’s late1970s/early 1980s major label recordings are still influential. But most importantly, his work remains relevant. In the past two years, Cooper Clarke has been part of two worldwide # 1 albums. The Arctic Monkeys cover his poem, “I Wanna Be Yours,” on their mega--selling album, “A.M.”; and he stars in “Ill Manors,” the directorial film debut of top UK rapper Plan B (aka Ben Drew.) Their duet, “Pity The Plight” appears in the movie and on the soundtrack.

At home in Britain, Cooper Clarke’s trademark skinny flamingo profile, with its jaunty cockscomb of hair, is more identifiable than ever. The much-loved cultural icon is the subject of a BBC documentary, “Evidently John Cooper Clarke,” and he has been awarded an honorary Arts Doctorate degree from Salford University in his native Manchester. His book of poetry, “Ten Years In An Open-Neck Shirt,” is one of the world’s top-sellers, and Cooper Clarke is currently negotiating its successor.

It’s time to catch up with the ever-challenging, ever-amusing John Cooper Clarke. He blazed a trail in the 1970s that still lights the way – now America gets to see where he’s flaming next.

‘Live In London’ is released on Fulfill Records andis available on iTunes. It is priced at $7.92
