Described musically as “Modern Acoustic,” H4TH produces an endearing mixture of homegrown compositions, engaging harmonies, and improvisation. In the live setting, H4TH ventures into a myriad of musical styles and sonic landscapes that appeal to a boundless array of listeners.

The past year has been outright explosive year for the quartet, having been voted by the Westword Magazine Music Showcase (Denver, CO) as the “Best Bluegrass” band in Colorado, a highly esteemed honor, for 2 years in a row (2010 & 2011). The group was selected to perform at SxSW (South by Southwest) in 2011, and were also a "SxSW Critics Picks” choice, via the Austin Statesman/360. The band performed at a host of music festivals in the summer 2011 including: Telluride Bluegrass Festival-NightGrass (Sold Out), High Sierra Music Festival, DelFest & many more.

To get a sense of Head for the Hills’ snowballing momentum, look no further than the surrounding talent on their self-titled sophomore release Head for the Hills, produced by Drew Emmitt (Leftover Salmon). The album garnered the group a charted position on the CMJ Top 200 national radio listings. The self titled release also earned the group a #29 position on Colorado Radio’s “Top 50 Albums of 2010.”

Missed the Boat is a high-energy Colorado-dance-grass band that has been on the Grammy ballot 7 times, and is quickly becoming one of the region's most sought-after acts. Able to move through and blend a wide array of musical genres such as Bluegrass, Americana, Funk, Folk, Blues and just plain Rock and Roll, Missed the Boat always keeps the crowd going with its tight harmonies and eclectic arrangements. With two albums released and more to come,  Missed the Boat is clearly making its mark on the regional and national music scene.

Amanda Johnson-King, Odell’s Marketing & Branding Manager mentions, “We’re so excited about our partnership with Head for the Hills! Their music and our beer embody the Colorado spirit of adventure and camaraderie, and being able to combine the two is inspiring and fun!”“It’s a dream to collaborate on a beer with Odell Brewing,” Mike Chappell from Head for the Hills shares. The pair initially came together earlier in 2013 to partner on the special beer in which the public voted on and selected the custom tap handle artwork, created by Odell. The two re-visited the concept in early December for hands-on brewing experience at Odell on the brewery’s pilot brewing system and brought a film crew to capture the day’s events. Brent Cordle, Odell’s Pilot Brew & Barrel Aging Manager comments “This collaboration beer is an Amber Ale with a hoppy attitude, dry hopped with American hop varieties giving the full bodied style, a big fruity aroma, a creamy white head and great mouth feel.”

From Telluride Bluegrass Festival to SxSW and all points beyond – Head for the Hills creates a sound based in bluegrass that reaches into indie rock, jazz, hip hop, world and folk to stitch together fresh songs that bridge the divide between past and future acoustic music.

Head for the Hills had a busy summer with several music festivals, including: Summer Camp Music Festival (Chillicothe, IL), Kinfolk Celebration at Planet Bluegrass (Lyons, CO), a performance with Nickel Creek at the Festival at Sandpoint, (Idaho), Botanic Gardens for a co-bill with Steep Canyon Rangers (Denver, CO) and more.

The quartet recently released their third studio album, Blue Ruin, which has received positive praise. The album has charted in the CMJ Top 200 and the band was featured by CMT – Edge mentioning – ‘Head for the Hills’ Blue Ruin effortlessly matches integrity against innovation’. Renowned artist Timothy Doyle (Muse, The Black Keys, Lucas Films, NASA) created the stunning cover art for ‘Blue Ruin.’ Head for the Hills recently released a single and video for their song "Never Does" from their album Blue Ruin and has had several performances this summer with many more upcoming this Fall.

Head for the Hills has performed and appeared at many premier festivals and radio programs: Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Wakarusa Music Festival, SxSW, Summer Camp Music Festival, NPR-Ideastream, eTown, High Sierra Music Festival, DelFest, RockyGrass and several more. The band was named “Best of Colorado” for 5 consecutive years via Westword Music Awards (Denver, CO) and also co-released a craft beer with one of USA Today’s “Top 15 Craft Beer Breweries” – Odell Brewing Co.

Head for the Hills has a simple but continuing dilemma they can’t seem to resolve. Specialists have been hired to no avail and the predicament persists: how does one describe the multifarious music of Head for the Hills? Among the top contenders are catchy turns of phrase like post-bluegrass, progressive string music, modern acoustic noir, and bluegrass bricolage.  “On top of modern string music,” (Bluegrass Today), “Cutting edge,” (Drew Emmitt) or “Best in Colorado Bluegrass” (Westword Showcase Readers Poll)—those are up there too. Strip away the artful descriptors and you have a forward thinking group of {mostly} acoustic musicians drawing on eclectic influences, tastes and styles. They didn’t grow up immersed in bluegrass music but came to it later in life, with each other. The result is a sound based in bluegrass that reaches into indie rock, jazz, hip hop, world and folk to stitch together fresh songs that bridge the divide between past and future acoustic music.

Head for the Hills—Adam Kinghorn on Guitar and vocals, Joe Lessard on violin and vocals, Matt Loewen on upright bass and vocals and Sam Parks on mandolin — have been bringing their music, whatever you’d like to call it, to audiences from the Telluride Bluegrass Festival to South by Southwest and a multitude of stages in between since 2004. The band has independently issued two studio records and one live, been featured on NPR Ideastream and eTown, co-released a beer with Odell Brewing Company in May 2013 and charted on the CMJ Top 200 (Blue Ruin, 2013 and Head for the Hills, 2010).  Blue Ruin, an all-new album of original material is available now.Head for the Hills has a simple but continuing dilemma they can’t seem to resolve.
