The Asheville-based soulful Folk/World troubadours Rising Appalachia have just added an impromptu performance date on their month-long Big Skies September tour. The date, to take place at The Aggie Theater in Ft. Collins on September 22nd, is a welcoming event intended to introduce the new owners of the venue to the local community. The Aggie Theater was just recently purchased by Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom back in August of this year.

Admission to the New Aggie Welcoming Party featuring Rising Appalachia is FREE for the first 200 attendees over 21. Tickets are only $12 after that. 8pm doors. 16 and up event. For tickets: www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/965011?_ga=1.83090454.1017545835.1441095469

Touring in support of their latest album, Wider Circles, sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith continue in their mission of upholding the sanctity of roots music traditions, while at the same time playing the edge of the genre and pushing the perceptual borders of their listeners. Drawing from their vast array of musical influences, the latest album blends elements of folk, soul, roots, world, and spoken word, and in signature Rising Appalachia fashion, it showcases the sisters’ sensual vocal harmonies and fine-tuned banjo/fiddle duets. Joined by Biko Casini (world percussion) and David Brown (stand-up bass / baritone guitar), Wider Circles is grounded by smooth and soulful bass lines and paired with powerful African rhythms.

In authentic fashion, the album’s lyrical expressions maintain consistency with the group's mission of promoting social and environmental justice. With tracks like “Medicine”, advocating for our return to indigenous wisdom and “Spirit’s Cradle”, calling attention to the frightening state of our nation's prison-industrial complex, Rising Appalachia's amplified vocals and captivating presence have become vehicles, both in recorded and live performances, to educate and inspire positive change.

Rising Appalachia are also advocates of what they’ve affectionately dubbed the “Slow Music Movement” – a series of initiatives with the aim of promoting sustainability within the music industry. The band encourages venues to use farm to table food options, minimize the use of water bottles,  and works to incorporate public transportation into their touring logistics. They’ve managed to schedule the majority of a month long tour by train earlier this year and have been researching everything from hitchhiking to horseback riding for smaller, future tours.
