A native of Macon, Georgia, Redding’s music continues to influence pop-culture and musicians in all genres as evidenced by artists including The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jay-Z and Willie Nelson. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994 and honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.

“For over 50 years I have been diligent to make sure Otis’ legacy remains relevant and recognizable around the world.  I feel that the Sony Music Publishing team can assist my family in this never-ending effort”, stated Mrs. Zelma Redding.

The Otis Redding Foundation (ORF) is proud to announce the 2024 "King of Soul Music Festival" on September 6 and 7, 2024, in Macon, Georgia. The eight-piece soul band St. Paul & The Broken Bones will perform during the gala event, "An Evening of Respect," at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 6, at the Macon City Auditorium. The "Big 'O' Homecoming Show & Dance" follows on Saturday, September 7, at the Capitol Theatre.

Sponsorships and VIP tickets for the "King of Soul Music Festival" are available at otisreddingfoundation.org. Balcony tickets for "An Evening of Respect" with St. Paul & The Broken Bones are $55.00 and go on sale Friday, August 2, at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster.

"We are honored to return to Macon and perform for the Otis Redding Foundation. Anytime we have a chance to show our love for the legacy of Otis Redding’s music, we will do our best to be there," stated Paul Janeway, vocalist and co-founder of St. Paul & The Broken Bones. "The Redding family has been so kind to us, and we are overjoyed for the opportunity to play at this event."

"Paul came to 'An Evening of Respect' in 2016 and expressed so much love and admiration for my husband’s music. He stole the show with his fervent performance and passion," stated Zelma Redding.

"My mom wanted to have Paul back, so she personally reached out and invited the band to headline the 2024 celebration," said Karla Redding-Andrews, VP and Executive Director of ORF.

Founded in Birmingham, AL, in 2011, St. Paul & The Broken Bones has garnered widespread acclaim for their dynamic sound and electrifying live performances. The eight-piece ensemble includes Paul Janeway (vocals), Jesse Phillips (bass), Browan Lollar (guitar), Kevin Leon (drums), Al Gamble (keyboards), Allen Branstetter (trumpet), Chad Fisher (trombone), and Amaris Ansari (saxophone). The band burst onto the scene with their 2014 debut album, Half the City. Since then, they have captivated audiences at major festivals including Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Glastonbury, and have shared stages with iconic artists such as Elton John and The Rolling Stones.

The band’s discography includes a mix of old-school soul, sleek summertime funk, and classic disco, showcased in albums like Young Sick Camellia (2018). Their latest LP, Angels in Science Fiction, continues this trend, building on the shadowy psychedelia and experimental R&B of their 2022 release, The Alien Coast. St. Paul & The Broken Bones often cover Otis Redding songs in concert, and in 2013, they hosted a secret house show at High Underground in Birmingham, where they played the iconic Otis Blue in its entirety.

The Macon Music Revue will open the evening. Two members of the preservation band, guitarist Dustin McCook and bassist Evan Bentzel, are alumni of the Otis Music Camp, having participated since middle school and continued through high school.

“Dusty and Evan came up through the Otis Music Camp, and their talent and professionalism today demonstrate exactly why the Otis Redding Center for the Arts will be such an invaluable destination for music education,” added Redding-Andrews.

During "An Evening of Respect," awards will be presented to:

--The Georgia Music Foundation, receiving the Otis & Zelma Redding Award of Respect in recognition of its 30 years of supporting music education, preservation, and outreach.

--The Gia Maione Prima Foundation, receiving The Otis Redding III Award of Philanthropy in recognition of its dedication to music education and its efforts to encourage an appreciation for American jazz, popular music, and jazz performance.

--Songwriter Vinson "Alaz" Muhammad, receiving The Otis Redding Foundation Dream Award for the dedication, ambition, and drive he demonstrates in pursuit of artistic excellence.

All proceeds from the festival support ORF’s programs at the Otis Redding Center for the Arts, scheduled to be completed in October. The center will further the Foundation’s mission to give students ages 5-18 an opportunity to explore their interest in music and the arts, including musical literacy, instrumentation, the mathematical components of music, and more.

ORCA embodies the spirit and vision of Otis Redding, the iconic musician, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Macon native, whose lifelong dream was to establish a creative haven for future generations. During his life, Redding actively pursued his passion for education and community, investing heavily in initiatives aimed at youth empowerment through music. Following his untimely passing in 1967, his widow, Zelma Redding, President and Founder of the Otis Redding Foundation, has passionately carried on his legacy. Mrs. Redding, alongside her family, continues managing Redding's extensive estate and music catalogue and advancing his charitable work. Reflecting on the opening of ORCA, Zelma Redding stated, “Being able to turn that dream into a reality with the help of my children, grandchildren, and all who support us, means more to me than words can express.”

The Estate of Otis Redding marks a milestone as March comes to a close, with this month marking the 60th anniversary of Otis Redding’s sophomore album, The Great Otis Redding Sings Soul Ballads. Originally released in March 1965, Redding’s second studio album showcases the soulful artistry that has remained a hallmark of his enduring legacy.

Available via Warner Music’s Rhino Records on all major digital music providers, The Great Otis Redding Sings Soul Ballads is a 12-track soul classic. It was originally released in 1965 on both Atlantic Records’ ATCO label and Volt, and it was Redding’s first release for the newly formed Stax sublabel, Volt. The album features original works by Redding and other Stax artists, as well as Redding’s interpretations of classic soul standards. Among these ballads are Redding’s first Top 10 single, “Mr. Pitiful,” along with “I Want to Thank You,” “Come To Me,” Sam Cooke’s “Nothing Can Change This Love,” and more.

Known as the “King of Soul,” Otis Redding’s electrifying performances and timeless songs have influenced generations of listeners worldwide. His musical catalog includes “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” “These Arms of Mine,” “Mr. Pitiful,” “Try a Little Tenderness,” “Respect,” “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” and many more. This March also marked a milestone for “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” which hit No. 1 on March 16, 1968—making it the first posthumous No. 1 single in American music history. Further commemorating Redding’s legacy, the Otis Redding Foundation celebrated the grand opening of the long-awaited Otis Redding Center for the Arts (ORCA) on March 18.

Serving students ages 5–18 in music and arts education, ORCA is a testament to Otis Redding’s enduring legacy: he was not only one of the world’s greatest musical artists but also a philanthropist committed to giving back to his community and inspiring young people through the arts. The state-of-the-art facility in downtown Macon, Georgia, plans to offer programming for toddlers and senior citizens later this year. A bronze statue of Otis Redding, honoring “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay,” will be installed as part of the Zelma Redding Amphitheater on the Center’s campus later this spring.
