Baltimore-based funk quartet Pigeons Playing Ping Pong delivered a show for the ages at a sold-out Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on Saturday, February 3rd. The band, no strangers to the historic room, celebrated their # show at the venue in style and were joined on a handful of songs by virtuosic Berklee College of Music guitar instructor Tomo Fujita.

The funky foursome took to the stage to thunderous applause and launched into “Melting Lights” seamlessly segueing into slinky dance track “Whirled.” Dynamic vocalist/guitarist Greg Ormont then introduced the audience to a new tune called “Day in Time”, the band’s recently released single and title track of their forthcoming seventh studio album, scheduled for release on April 26, 2024. PPPP then debuted new original song “Feet on the Ground” before diving into an electrifying rendition of “Avalanche” that sandwiched a cover of “Hedwig’s Theme”, a dazzling John Williams composition originally found on the soundtrack of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

The band then invited acclaimed guitarist and longtime collaborator Tomo Fujita to the stage, and the musicians delivered high-octane performances of “Indiglo” and “F.U.” to close the set.

After a brief intermission, set two began with “Mine” followed by fan-favorite song “Horizon.” The dulcet track inspired a venue-wide singalong, and the crowd’s energy continued to rise as Fujita returned to the stage for classic original songs “Overtime” and “Zydeko.” The band then paid homage to rock and roll legends of yesteryear, digging into a cover of The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” complete with an extended jam that also contained teases of Led Zeppelin’s “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” and Chicago’s “25 or 6 to 4.” Set two closet with “Couldn’t We All,” and “The Liquid.”

PPPP took to the stage once more, and after a sincere thank you to their legions of fans for years of support, they closed with “Ocean Flows.”

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s winter tour continues next week with a run of shows through the southeast. For more information, and to purchase tickets, please visit pigeonsplayingpingpong.com/tour-dates.
