Dave Brubeck

The world of jazz, rich in its diversity and depth, has been significantly shaped by numerous legendary figures, one of whom is Dave Brubeck. Known for his innovative approach to music and his commitment to social justice, Brubeck's influence transcends generations.

Paul Desmond, born on November 25th, 1924, is celebrated for his exceptional musical talent, particularly his unique playing style that graced the world of jazz. His contributions as the alto saxophonist for the Dave Brubeck Quartet are legendary, with their performance in "Live at Carnegie Hall" standing as a testament to his extraordinary skill and musicality.

This spring, Craft Recordings officially re-launched Original Jazz Classics, reimagining the long-running reissue imprint with audiophiles and vinyl collectors in mind. Now the series closes out the year with three more essential titles: The Tony Bennett Bill Evans Album, the Dave Brubeck Quartet’s Jazz at Oberlin and The Cats, which captures Tommy Flanagan, John Coltrane, Kenny Burrell and Idrees Sulieman on the cusp of stardom.

Craft Recordings announces a special gift for jazz fans this holiday with a new audiophile pressing of A Dave Brubeck Christmas. Originally released in 1996, this bestselling title marks the legendary pianist’s sole holiday outing, as he interprets yuletide classics like “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “Winter Wonderland” and “The Christmas Song,” as well as stirring originals (“To Us Is Given,” “Run, Run, Run to Bethlehem”).

Today we lost jazz legend Dave Brubeck, age 91, to heart failure at a Norwalk, Connecticut hospital.   Brubeck, whose tricky time signatures and extended improvisation jams transcended the swing rhythm of the 50's and 60's had an extensive career spanning six decades and he continued to pursue his musical career until this day.  Brubeck would have been 92 on Thursday.  Our thoughts and wishes go out to Brubeck's family, friends and fans.

Concord Music Group is launching five new titles in its Very Best Of jazz series, which showcases some of the very best tracks culled from the recordings of some of the most influential artists in the history of the genre. The five new titles, which highlight the work of Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi, The Bill Evans Trio, Thelonious Monk, and Cannonball Adderley, are set for release on August 7, 2012.
