On Thursday, Oct 4, the 13th Annual Fall Joshua Tree Music Festival descended on the Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground, bringing with it all of the positive vibes, beautiful artwork, healers, instructors and of course musicians that the festival is known for. Artists from all around the world come to the mystical high-desert location, where Founder Barnett English and his dedicated support team put in months of preparation leading up to each festival. The long-awaited EP—due February 23 on digital and vinyl formats via the trio's own imprint Soulive Music—is the first new music in six years from the genre-smashing groove masters. http://soulive.comSoulive has never made any bones about what they do best; it's right there in their name. Since forming in 1999, the trio of guitarist Eric Krasno, drummer Alan Evans and keyboardist Neal Evans has carried the torch for the soul-jazz organ trio-that venerable, funky institution pioneered by the likes of Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack McDuff and Groove Holmes in the late '60s. This marked a major achievement for the venue that already offers a fine local-sourced restaurant, and concert settings that include The Grate Room and the smaller bar stage.

Supported by yet another long time vet George Porter Jr. of The Meters brought out his side project Runnin’ Pardners. This evening was filled with bright, colorful and energetic music.
