The Vermont Jazz Center will welcome Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah [formerly Christian Scott] on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 7:30 PM. The performance will be held in-person in Brattleboro, VT, and livestreamed. Adjuah will be joined by Lawrence Fields (Fender Rhodes, keyboards), Kris Funn (bass), and Brian Richburg Jr. (drums and percussion).
Best known for his groundbreaking work on trumpet, Adjuah continues to push musical boundaries with instruments of his own design, including a reverse flugelhorn, a siren, and the Adjuah Bow—a 20-string harp inspired by the West African n’goni. His concept of “stretch music” fuses tradition and innovation, honoring the past while exploring new sonic territory.
Chief Adjuah’s music is deeply connected to his heritage as a descendant of the New Orleans Maroon community and as a Chieftain of the Xodokan Nation. His artistry serves not only as a powerful musical statement but also as a cultural bridge, celebrating ancestral memory and the resilience of Afro-Indigenous traditions. Alongside his role as Grand Griot of New Orleans, Adjuah continues to use music as both a form of storytelling and a platform for social justice.
With 13 studio albums, 4 live recordings, and multiple Grammy nominations, Adjuah has collaborated with artists across genres, from Thom Yorke and Mos Def to McCoy Tyner and Robert Glasper. His latest work, Bark Out Thunder Roar Out Lightning, expands his sonic palette, weaving voice, horns, and the Adjuah Bow into an immersive experience.
