Don White Releases Gold, a Long-Awaited Tulsa Sound Alb

Gold, a new album from Tulsa Sound pioneer Don White, will be available on all major streaming platforms Friday, October 3. Produced by White alongside David Teegarden, Sr.—a Grammy Award–winning musician known for his work with Bob Seger, JJ Cale, Eric Clapton, and Joe Walsh—the record was born out of a recording session that began 50 years ago.

A Project 50 Years in the Making

The album’s 15 tracks feature White on vocals and guitar, joined by a veritable “who’s who” of the Tulsa Sound:

  • Mike “Monk” Bruce – electric & acoustic guitar

  • Casey Van Beek – bass

  • Tommy Tripplehorn – electric guitar

  • Debbie Campbell – vocals

  • Steve Pryor – electric guitar

  • Jim Byfield – backing vocals

While the first songs were recorded decades ago, the burgeoning careers of the individual artists—including Teegarden’s own gig with Bob Seger—meant the project was shelved. It stayed there until White rediscovered the tapes nearly half a century later.

“This ‘new’ record is actually an ‘old’ record we started on a two-track, reel-to-reel tape recorder,” White recalls. “We had enough songs where we were planning on making it a record, and then we all went different ways. Years went by, and I was cleaning out a closet, and I found it! I called Teegarden and said, ‘I think we ought to figure out if we can do something with that.’”

Timeless Songs, Timeless Sound

Despite the years, quality doesn’t go out of style. Solid songwriting and outstanding musicianship have no expiration date, and Gold is proof of that.

White’s style of country blues has been honed through decades of writing, recording, and performing. Over his career, he has shared the stage with Waylon Jennings, J.J. Cale, Dwight Yoakam, Willie Nelson, Don Williams, George Strait, Gus Hardin, Delbert McClinton, Toby Keith, David Allen Coe, Merle Haggard, Ry Cooder, and more. His original songs have also been recorded by artists such as Rosanne Cash, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Suzy Bogguss.

Release Formats

Gold will be released in vinyl, CD, and digital formats, including a limited edition gold-colored vinyl.
