The Grateful Deads spirit will once again fill Golden Gate Park this summer as Dead & Company returns to the Polo Fields in celebration of the band’s 60th anniversary. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie confirmed on Monday that the ensemble—anchored by founding guitarist and vocalist Bob Weir alongside longtime percussionist Mickey Hart—will headline three consecutive evenings, August 1st through 3rd.

Emerging from Haight‑Ashbury in the mid‑1960s, the Grateful Dead became the emblem of San Francisco’s psychedelic renaissance. Unlike many of their peers from the era, the Dead sustained their journey through decades of change: after Jerry Garcia’s passing, core members re‑emerged as The Other Ones and later simply The Dead. Since 2015, Dead & Company has carried that torch with John Mayer on guitar and vocals, while original drummer Bill Kreutzmann stepped away in 2023.

Mayor Lurie praised the deep ties between the band and the city, noting how—from Garcia’s childhood home near Ingleside to the communal gatherings in Haight—Grateful Dead lore is woven into San Francisco’s cultural fabric. “Bringing Dead & Company back to the site where the Summer of Love blossomed is more than a concert series,” he said. “It’s both a tribute to an enduring musical legacy and a celebration of San Francisco’s creative heartbeat.”

Pending approval by the Recreation and Parks Commission later this week, the concerts will be produced by Another Planet Entertainment in partnership with Live Nation and SF Rec & Parks. Lurie’s office projects daily crowds of up to 60,000; in 2023, a similar three‑day run by Dead & Company generated an estimated $31 million for the local economy.

With three nights under the stars at one of the city’s most iconic venues, Dead & Company’s Golden Gate Park residency promises to unite generations of Deadheads, invigorate nearby businesses, and reaffirm San Francisco’s status as the birthplace of a musical revolution.
