The Chapel in San Francisco has announced a 50th anniversary celebration of the legendary Grateful Dead albums Aoxomoxoa and Live Dead on October 28 and 29. Curated by Ethan Miller who's revered for his incendiary musical vision in bands like Howlin Rain, Comets On Fire and Heron Oblivion, the Oakland-based artist has assembled an all-star line-up that features some of California's most ground-breaking improvisational musicians, including guitarist Isaiah Mitchell, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Dan Horne and drummer Austin Beede. Guest vocalists for each night will be announced in the coming weeks. On October 28, the band will interpret arguably one of the greatest psychedelic studio records ever made Aoxomoxoa, while the following evening they'll crack open the Dead’s pièce de résistance, Live Dead.

"Myself, the four other incredible musicians in the band and a number of exceptional guest performers are coming together to bring these records to life again and to celebrate their vast and undying energy," says Ethan Miller. "In the performance of Aoxomoxoa it gives folks a chance to see, hear and feel something live that I'm not sure even the Dead ever fully committed to the stage in its entirety. As for Live Dead, we're just gonna set it loose and see what happens. It's the only way to really honor the spirit, energy and exploration of what that record accomplished. The sound and spirit of these historic albums are going to be there and then some. It's all gonna be a party!"

50 years since both albums were released in 1969, The Grateful Dead's Aoxomoxoa and Live Dead have grown only more vital and relevant as they continue to be discovered by new generations to this day. Created by The Grateful Dead through the vision and embrace of wide-eyed, fearless improvisation, Miller and company will shine a light on the evolution of that unbridled spirit and creative blueprint in which he and his fellow musicians still revel a half century later.

Tickets go on-sale today (October 4) at 12pm PT. A portion of proceeds from each night will benefit The Grateful Dead’s long-standing charity, The Rex Foundation.
