Nashville-based Americana rocker Sophie Gault returns October 3rd with “Pocket Change”, a fiery reinterpretation of acclaimed songwriter Mando Saenz’s track—this time with Saenz himself stepping in on guest vocals. Produced by Alex Torrez (Torrez Music Group) and David Dorn, and engineered/mixed by Grammy-winner Brandon Bell (Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, Billy Strings), the single pulses with grit, attitude, and outlaw swagger.
“I loved this song the second I first heard Mando’s version,” Gault shares. “The lyrics are great and I love the attitude. I tried to give it as much attitude as I could. It was an honor that we got him to sing on it and trade a few lines with me.”
Trading verses with Saenz, Gault leans into a late-night, devil-may-care energy that channels her trademark blend of raw guitars, fearless honesty, and back-room mischief. The collaboration is playful yet powerful—an electrifying exchange between two kindred spirits of Americana storytelling.
“Pocket Change” is a first glimpse of Gault’s forthcoming album, Unhinged, due out early next year. True to its title, Unhinged is a reckless and revelatory ride—equal parts cow-punk Buck Owens, punked-up Robert Johnson, and outlaw confessional. Over ten tracks, Gault blends sly revenge songs (“Merlot Dodge Dart”), tender confessions (“Chestnut St”), rowdy anthems (the title track), and aching duets (the water-lit ballad “Is There Anyone Out There” with Gurf Morlix).
Described as a “midnight voice with last-call rock and roll,” Gault has built a reputation as one of Nashville’s most compelling underground figures. She’s earned praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard, Saving Country Music, and The Bluegrass Situation, while touring alongside Gabe Lee, Margo Cilker, and Sister Hazel.
With Unhinged, Sophie Gault is making her boldest statement yet: life is too short to play it safe. Raise a glass, place your bet, and get ready to get a little Unhinged.
