Dublin shoegaze/psych-rock trailblazers Sun Mahshene return with their most ambitious single yet. Life Is Joy arrives October 31st, followed by a headline release show at Sin É in Dublin on November 1st with support from The Ravs.

Already praised as “reverb-soaked bliss” by Hot Press and “brilliant…they’ve got that stadium rock sound” by BBC Radio, Sun Mahshene continue to carve out a reputation for their visceral live performances and uncompromising sound. The five-piece kicked off 2024 with a stellar support slot for The Brian Jonestown Massacre at Dublin’s 3Olympia and Belfast’s Ulster Hall, and have since drawn acclaim from The Irish Times, Static Sounds, No More Workhorse, and more.

Their debut album A Place We’ve Never Been (August 2024) launched the band into national prominence, and Life Is Joy finds them fully in their stride, leaning into a slightly heavier sound while staying true to the raw emotional heart of rock’n’roll. Expansive, cinematic, and emotionally charged, the single captures the intensity of their live show while reaching into something powerful and transportive.

Mixed and mastered by acclaimed producer James Aparicio (Spiritualized, Depeche Mode, Mogwai), Life Is Joy is a towering wall of sound—swirling guitars, driving rhythms, and soaring vocals balanced at the intersection of shoegaze, psych, and grand atmospheric rock. For fans of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, and Spiritualized, Sun Mahshene offer music built for immersion.

“Sun Mahshene are here for your heart and soul and they ain’t leaving without them,” wrote Static Sounds. With Life Is Joy, the band close out a landmark year on a bold note, cementing their place as one of Ireland’s most exciting exports in the modern psych and shoegaze scene.
