The previously unheard LP sees James at the height of her majestic vocal powers, backed by her red hot Roots Band, an all-star lineup of musicians including longtime musical director/ guitarist/arranger Josh Sklair, guitarist Bobby Murray, bassist Bobby Vega, keyboardist David Matthews, drummer Herman “Roscoe” Ernest III, and her son, percussionist Donto James, along with the powerhouse horn section of saxophonist Richard Howell, trumpet player Ronnie Buttacavoli, and trombonist Kraig Kilbey.

Tipitina’s Record Club presents six specially curated, bi-monthly records celebrating the music and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South each year, spanning archival milestones, never-before-heard rarities, out-of-print reissues, and brand-new recordings, all on limited edition, 180g custom-colored vinyl exclusive to subscribers. Bi-monthly and annual subscriptions are available now. Free shipping is included for subscribers in the contiguous United States.

Tipitina’s Record Club’s current release, Trombone Shorty’s Lifted, is still available to new subscribers HERE. The GRAMMY® Award-winning musician’s first new album in five years, Lifted captures all the explosive energy of his legendary live shows, combining classic New Orleans sounds – funk, gospel, street rhythms, Mardi Gras Indian chants, and second lines – with modern lyrics, melody, and beats to create something fresh and unique. Due for release via Blue Note Records on Friday, April 29, the custom-colored Tipitina’s Record Club vinyl edition of Lifted is available only through subscription.

Tipitina’s is of course one of America’s most iconic music venues. Since its opening in 1977, Tipitina’s has stood the test of time by hosting the most talented musicians and groups from New Orleans and the world at large, including the renowned Crescent City-based instrumental outfit, Galactic. In late 2018, Galactic announced their purchase of the internationally famous two-story yellow building on the corner of Tchoupitoulas Street and Napoleon Avenue, promising to both further Tipitina’s rich traditions while also continuing to honor the remarkable musical history of the Gulf South.
