On February 5th, independently owned record stores across the country will be selling a limited edition benefit compilation titled “A Benefit For Equality Vol. 1”. It celebrates black artistry in the blues genre with proceeds going to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). This one-time pressing is limited to only 500 copies.

The vision of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race.

Singer-songwriters Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis’ annual Holiday Shindig this year has a twist.

The 21st edition of the couple’s show is a virtual holiday special filled with all of the yuletide cheer. Alabama Slim was born Milton Frazier in Vance, Alabama on March 29, 1939. His father built trains at the Pullman plant and his mother did domestic work to make ends meet. In their home they had an old Victrola turntable and a boxful of 78s. Slim fell in love with the blues of Bill Broonzy and Lightnin’ Hopkins, and that’s where the journey began for the always dapper bluesman, who was poised for a late-in-life breakout in 2020 with a scheduled appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Today, Connecticut-based rock quintet Goose announced plans for a live stream concert from Rockefeller Center in the heart of New York City. “Goosemas Livestream from Rockefeller Center” is the band’s seventh annual holiday celebration in as many years. A little over a week ago, five-member progressive string band Horseshoes and Hand Grenades released their brand-new album, Miles In Blue, and just last night, they performed the album in its entirety via a special, two-hour live-streamed set.

Celebrated Americana singer/songwriter Israel Nash is gearing up to release his resplendent album Topaz on March 12.  The follow-up to his 2018 release Lifted, Nash recorded the candid, textured album at Plum Creek Sound, his studio assembled from an old quonset hut near his home in the Texas Hill Country. Topaz marks the first album Nash has recorded mostly on his own, both taking his time and relishing his newfound access to immediacy, punching the red button moments after an idea hit.
