On Friday, May 19, 2023, the Syrian Music Preservation Initiative (SMPI) will present an evening featuring works by Syrian composers, Love and Loss: Classical Music of Syria to mark its fifth anniversary at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

The celebration begins at 8:00 PM and features SMPI’s Takht al-Nagham (an Arab chamber music ensemble), led by Artistic Director Samer Ali. The group includes instruments traditional to the takht including the oud (Arab lute), qanun (Arab zither) and riq (tambourine).

As the Dead & Company prepare for their final Farewell Tour this summer, the bands legendary percussionist, Mickey Hart, will present his newest art collection, the Art of Mickey Hart during two of the groups tour stops. Hart is scheduled to appear at the Wentworth Gallery at Tysons Galleria in McLean VA on Sunday, June 4th at 2 pm and on Friday, June 23rd at 6:30 pm at the Wentworth Gallery at Short Hills Mall in Short Hill, NJ. These two exclusive art showings will be private and intimate for patrons.

Rock legend and Gainesville, Florida Native Tom Petty will soon add Doctor to his running list of accolades. The late musician will be recognized by The University of Florida with an honorary Doctor of Music degree; a distinction he dreamt of receiving throughout his lifetime. Bruce Petty, Tom Petty’s brother, will accept the posthumous doctorate on his behalf at the university’s spring commencement ceremony tomorrow.

Philly Music Fest returns for its seventh year for seven nights in a city-wide festival October 9th-15th, 2023. Star Kitchen returned for another great show at the Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, NY on April 22, 2023. Created by Marc Brownstein of the Disco Biscuits, this jazz meets jam rock quartet cooked up a tasty two sets of psychedelic funk that included rapper Matisyahu as a special guest.
