Dumpstaphunk treated the Highline Ballroom to a surprise double-dose of funk royalty last Wednesday, June 6 as the legendary "Queen of Funk" - Chaka Khan - shared the stage with Ivan Neville's all star New Orleans funk ensemble for the pair's first ever live collaboration.The private performance was for book distributor Publishers Group West (PGW)‘s annual BookExpo America party, which opened the night with a set from Brooklyn funk favorites, the Pimps of Joytime.

SUNSET STRIP MUSIC FESTIVAL (SSMF) organizers today announced that the fifth annual three-day music festival--taking place on THE SUNSET STRIPThursday, August 16 through Saturday, August 18--will celebrate the music and legacy of THE DOORS.The festival will kick off with an exclusive VIP event honoring the iconic Sunset Strip band on August 16, which will feature an all-star band celebrating THE DOORS, and will conclude with an all-day street fest on Saturday, August 18.

I have a problem. It’s not a joke. I am addicted to music. I have been a victim to this addiction since 1987, maybe earlier.  That was my first live music experience.   My addiction to music has affected me adversely in the following ways: uncontrollable smiles, a feeling of connection to everyone around me, and a sense of synchronicity with harmony and syncopation within my everyday surroundings. 

After many years of waiting the Bonnaroo Music Festival was within reach. The line of cars that snaked down the shoulder of the highway was all that stood between me and a weekend of amazing music. At the security checkpoint we were reminded that glass was prohibited while two gentlemen lightly searched our belongings. We were in.

In a music career spanning over three decades, Frank Zappa put out over 60 albums. Some call him a genius. Those who don’t simply do not understand (pardon me and my asshole opinion—but I am right). Zappa has always had top-tier musicians in his line-ups, many of which have looked at his music charts and shuddered under the pressure.
