As announced in USA Today and ABC News, Grammy award honoree, Songwriters Hall of Fame member, and BBC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Don McLean is set to embark on his 2022 American Pie 50th Anniversary Tour with 20 additional cities throughout the United States and Canada.

Don McLean’s beloved hit “American Pie,” makes its way into the new AppleTV+ sci-fi movie Finch starring Tony and Golden Globe Award winner Tom Hanks. Hanks plays “Finch Weinberg,” a robotics engineer who builds an AI sidekick to take care of his companion canine after he’s gone. Finch’s relatable and vulnerable side is revealed as he sings “American Pie” to himself when he is lonely and while making his way through a dust storm that might lead to his death.

In the lyrics for Don McLean’s immortal mega-hit ‘American Pie’ it says “…bye-bye, Miss American Pie…”. But now it means “…hi hi, Mister American Pie…”! The creator of the probably biggest pop music evergreen is back. The hit celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and McLean will embark on a 35-date European tour in 2022.

As many people know, there are some songs that are considered classics. So when another artist covers a classic song, it can either turn out to be a hit (Whitney Houston covers Dolly Parton’s ‘I Will Always Love You’) or it could be a dud (Jessica Simpson covering Nancy Sinatra’s ‘These Boots Are Made For Walkin’’).

One song that would be considered both, depending on who you talk to, is Madonna’s take on "American Pie" by Don McLean.

Songwriter Hall of Fame member Don McLean has amassed a plethora of albums throughout his 50-year career, which began in 1969, and quickly soared his status to stardom with the 1971 release of American Pie. Now, in 2020, many of the recordings which has been unavailable on any digital platform will soon be released through a new recording and distribution agreement with Time Life, which is distributed through the WEA/Warner Bros. distribution system.

There is no slowing down for one of America’s greatest singer-songwriters, Don McLean! Having recently honored the 60th anniversary of Buddy Holly’s death and receiving Million-Air certifications from BMI for over 5 million certified airplays of "American Pie" and 3 million certified airplays for "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)," McLean continues to bring his classic hit songs to stages around the world.
