Corey Henry’s NOLA Footwork Music Festival returns Saturday, May 31, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Broadside NOLA (600 North Broad St.) for an afternoon-into-evening Second Line Music & Cultural Celebration. Presented by NOLA Footwork Music Festival in partnership with PEER International, this family-friendly event spotlights New Orleans’ storied brass-band tradition alongside a new generation of foot-stomping funk.
Henry and his Treme Funktet headline a bill that now features New Orleans mainstays Big Six Brass Band and Yung Dex Brass Band alongside two youth ensembles: NOLA Footwork Allstar Kids (in collaboration with NRCC Kids) and Sudan SAPC. Festivalgoers will also enjoy raffles, face painting, crafts, and prizes—all designed to engage every member of the family. Children age 12 and under attend free.
In tandem with the festival, Corey Henry & The Treme Funktet have just released their latest album, complete with a “kick-ass” video that captures the band’s high-energy blend of funk, jazz, and Second Line grooves. Watch it now on Vimeo: vimeo.com/1084661885. The album is available on all major streaming services and through the band’s site at coreyhenrytremefunktet.com.
