GRAMMY-nominated singer, songwriter, and genre-blending musician Matisyahu has released his new single “Son Come Up” and announced his eighth full-length studio album, Ancient Child, will be released on Friday, October 3rd via SoundOn.

Rooted in the soul of reggae, the swagger of hip-hop, and the pulse of afrobeat, “Son Come Up” grabs the listener immediately with a fusion of rhythms, building into a rich hip-hop groove that feels introspective and full of promise all at once. Lyrically, Matisyahu draws from deep personal and spiritual wells, reflecting on fatherhood, legacy, and the quiet prayer that our sons and daughters surpass us – not just in success, but in wisdom, purpose, and peace. Featuring an appearance from LAIVY, Matisyahu’s oldest son, “Son Come Up” serves as a powerful metaphor for renewal and generational hope, casting light on what we build and leave behind. “‘Son Come Up’ is the first song conceived when I started writing for the album, Ancient Child, and fittingly so,” shares Matisyahu. “At the time, I didn’t know the name of the album, but I had been circling around this concept for 20 years, since I started learning Kabbala and Chassidut. My oldest son, Laivy, is also 20 and his younger brother, Duvbear, have both started their music careers and have left the nest. As they move through dangerous situations, I pray for them to rise like the sun and shine their lights into the world. The song ‘Son Come Up’ becomes a prayer to the next generation to move us into a time of peace. The Ancient Child comes on a donkey lead by a child.”

Ancient Child simultaneously reaches back in time and towards the future, in search of the infinite divine light of redemption. On the 12-song collection, Matisyahu finds himself reconnected with his Jewish identity and spirituality in a world post-October 7th. The record investigates questions about history, identity, and destiny from the humility of a child through the wisdom of the generations past.

The music on Ancient Child is not reggae. It’s not rock. It’s not hip hop. Like Matisyahu himself, and the world he creates lyrically, it is a melding of styles and sounds he has absorbed through more than twenty years as a recording and touring artist. He writes from his experiences about hopes, challenges, and fears, and is only interested in what sonically moves the emotion. The album includes Matisyahu’s recent singles “Rockin Tempos” featuring Duvbear and “Find A Way.” Full track listing below. Ancient Child is now available to pre-save on DSPs – PRESS HERE.

The artwork for Ancient Child was designed by renowned visual artist Andrew Cotton, who created original paintings for the album and each focus single, with limited-edition prints available for purchase.

In support of the new album, Matisyahu is hitting the road in October with his full band for the Ancient Child Tour with a special opening set from longtime friend and collaborator Aaron Dugan. The 15-date headlining outing launches October 11th in Buffalo and will travel along the East Coast, stopping in Boston, Philadelphia, Myrtle Beach, Raleigh, Charleston, Athens, and St. Petersburg, among others, before wrapping October 29th in Orlando. Tickets are on sale now; visit matisyahuworld.com/tour for more information and to purchase tickets.

Like only the most gifted storytellers, Matisyahu spins the rare kind of stories that simultaneously enlighten, enthrall, and expand the audience’s sense of possibility. Since breaking onto the scene 20 years ago with his 2005 Gold-certified Live At Stubb’s and the genre-bending, Billboard Hot 100-charting breakthrough single “King Without A Crown,” the New York native has become known for blending reggae, hip-hop, alt rock, and boldly inventive pop – all while paying homage to his spirituality and Jewish roots.

Matisyahu’s career includes the chart-topping albums Light (2009), which features his Gold-certified global hit “One Day” (streamed over 150 million times on Spotify), Youth (2006), and Spark Seeker (2012); various EPs including last year’s Hold The Fire; and multiple live albums that exemplify his transcendent performances, which provide audiences with a dynamic, energetic experience full of life and illumination.
