Few bands make it three decades. Fewer still shape a genre in the process. And no one has done it with more joy, grit, and freewheeling spirit than Leftover Salmon.
From their early days as a fearless progressive bluegrass band unafraid to break tradition, to becoming pioneers of the modern jamgrass movement, to their role today as festival mainstays and scene-builders, Leftover Salmon has remained one of America’s most influential live acts. Their sound fuses bluegrass roots with Cajun swamp grooves, New Orleans funk, Southern rock, and psychedelic improvisation—all tied together with the energy of their Colorado mountain home.
Anchored by founders Drew Emmitt and Vince Herman, the band’s current lineup is among its strongest ever, featuring banjo standout Andy Thorn, bassist Greg Garrison, drummer Alwyn Robinson, and multi-instrumentalist Jay Starling. Together, they carry forward Salmon’s storied history while pushing the music into new terrain.
This Thanksgiving weekend, the band returns to the Boulder Theater for two special nights:
Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to the Salmon experience, these Boulder Theater shows promise the full ride: front-porch bluegrass, Cajun spice, festival-sized jams, and a band that has never stood still in over thirty years.
