Ohio is flat. I know this. It isn’t Kansas-flat or Nebraska-flat, but flat all the same. Detroit, where I live, is only an hour from Toledo—the city Ohio wrested from us during the Michigan-Ohio War of 1836. I’ve driven through the Buckeye State many times and vacationed in most of its major “C” cities (plus the “T,” “D,” “BG,” and “M”). All of them are pretty level. Legend Valley, however—tucked near that middle “C” city—is shockingly hilly. I probably should have gleaned that from the word valley in its name, but hindsight is 20/20.

The gracious virtuosity of 25-year-old piano phenom Jahari Stampley encapsulates a voice akin to revolutionary composers who have defined and expanded genres into musical movements reflecting the times.

Grammy-winner Tim O'Brien is back with a new album he collaborated on with Jan Fabricius, Paper Flowers, out June 6 on Howdy Skies Records. Paper Flowers will be O'Brien's first true collaboration and duo album with Fabricius, with folk great Tom Paxton co-writing 12 of the album's 15 original songs. It was recorded at Cowboy Arms in Nashville with Tim on guitar and vocal and Jan on mandolin and vocal, along with longtime collaborators Mike Bub (bass), Mike Rojas (accordion), Justin Moses (resophonic guitar), and Larry Atamanuik (drums).

The Lowell Summer Music Series is set to return to the heart of The Mill City for its 35th season, bringing 12 nationally touring acts to the stage all summer long. This year’s lineup features an eclectic mix of artists, including Los Lobos, Grace Potter, Galactic, KALEO, Josh Ritter, and more.
