Waylon Jennings

Gold, a new album from Tulsa Sound pioneer Don White, will be available on all major streaming platforms Friday, October 3. Produced by White alongside David Teegarden, Sr.—a Grammy Award–winning musician known for his work with Bob Seger, JJ Cale, Eric Clapton, and Joe Walsh—the record was born out of a recording session that began 50 years ago.

A Project 50 Years in the Making

“With each new thing I roll out, people will see a new side of him that they hadn’t seen previously,” says Jody White, the son of swamp funk country music legend Tony Joe White. It’s been his mission since his dad’s passing in 2018 to keep his music around for fans, both die-hard and uninitiated, and with the upcoming release of The Real Thang, Jody knows it’s going to be quite the treat for Tony Joe devotees. “This should resonate with a lot of people,” Jody says.

Back in 1980, the beloved Louisiana singer-songwriter and guitarist Tony Joe White recorded an album called The Real Thang.

Today, we tip our hats and raise our glasses to Waylon Jennings, the outlaw country icon born on June 15th. His voice, deep as the Texas night, carried the stories of rebels and dreamers, painting pictures of heartache, freedom, and the wild frontier. Here at Grateful Web, we honor the legacy of this musical maverick and his storied connection with the Grateful Dead.
