Veteran NYC jazz trumpeter Chris Rogers (Gerry Mulligan, Buddy Rich, Mongo Santamaria, Eddie Palmieri, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Hilton Ruiz, etc) brings an 'electrified' jazz sextet to the iconic Bitter End on Tuesday Sept 14th, for a special 90-minute MILES DAVIS TRIBUTE SHOW. The group will be presenting selections from classic "late-60's" Miles albums including "Filles De Kilimanjaro", "Water Babies", "Miles in India", "Miles in the Sky", "Bitches Brew" and "In A Silent Way".

The annual Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival returns to the Green on Saturday, September 18, from noon until 10:00 p.m. Canceled because of the pandemic in 2020, this year’s free concert pays tribute to one of its founders Linda Kiger Smith and Mike Fabrizio, a longtime member of the festival committee, both of whom passed away in June. An initiative by Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, the Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival is made possible by the generous support of a long list of sponsors.
 

Multi-GRAMMY nominated arranger/composer Pete McGuinness brings his NYC big band back to the stage of Manhattan’s Birdland, Jazz Club featuring several new works, as well as his arrangements from the band’s three CDs recorded since 2006. The gig will feature Pete’s music, his jazz vocals, and all the top-tier New York jazz musicians of the band. Great food served too! Hope to see you there.

Swing University offers engaging virtual classes for jazz fans, enthusiasts, and students of all backgrounds and levels.

April 16 through April 30 plan to experience NYC’s longest continuously running music series dedicated to Jazz, created by the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium (CBJC). The series is a blend of in-person, livestream, and pre-recorded music celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month. Performances hosted by restaurants and cultural institutions located in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Clinton Hill, Crown Heights, East New York, and Gowanus. All programs comply with existing social distancing guidelines; are accessible and open to all. Music lovers advised to make reservations through the venues.

Guitarist Skip Grasso and bassist Phil Ravita have recorded a set of original and fresh new jazz, high-quality material that can be adopted by today’s jazz artists. They gathered a particularly strong quintet and the results are the nine new originals that comprise Jagged Spaces.

Howard Johnson, veteran jazz musician, tuba innovator and founding member of the Saturday Night Live band, died at home in New York on Jan. 11, 2021, following a long illness, according to his longtime partner, Nancy Olewine.
