The dynamic instrumental recording duo, Hot Mustard, is proud to announce the release of their debut album, Mother Sauce, on Eddie Robert's (New Mastersounds) Color Red label. Drawing influence from late 1960's and early 1970's funk and soul, the building blocks of first-generation boom bap hip-hop, multimedia artist and guitarist/producer Jack Powell and bassist Nick Carusos, have accomplished the rarest of triumphs with Mother Sauce by creating a new twist on a classic recipe.  Simply put, Hot Mustard is as retro as it is radical, and the end result is nothing short of intensely addictive.  Track by track, the debut album offers an unpretentious, yet decadent menu of sonic flavors, effortlessly weaving chopped dry-aged drum arrangements with buttery bass lines, twang infused funk guitar licks and 70's synth-inspired string nostalgia, all while retaining the time-honored, refined sense of taste that made labels like Stax and Atlantic Records household names.  Fueling the record throughout are the Brooklyn, NY based Big brass Beats, the all brass horn section featuring Grammy-nominated trumpeter Jordan Mclean (Antibalas) and trombonist Dave "Smoota" Smith (TV On The Radio).

“The collaboration with Jordan and Dave ended up being an essential part of the album.  When two different worlds collide, sometimes it can be messy, but other times it works in unique and interesting ways.  With this record, it felt like we had created something strange and special, while keeping it fun and refreshing," explains Powell.

On June 4th, Hot Mustard's first single, "Jerkwater Strut," will drop on all streaming platforms. Accompanying the single is an animated video created by Jack Powell who goes under the artist moniker of Opus Thimble. HM's unique musical vision becomes consummate with the addition of Powell's Monty Pythonesque visual animations.  Accomplishing timelessness in any art medium is always the gold standard, and with Mother Sauce, both sonically and visually, Hot Mustard has accomplished this and more.

Tim Reynolds, two-time Grammy nominated composer / performer and guitarist for the Dave Matthews Band, in conjunction with the non-profit record label, CommunityZ RecordZ, is proud to announce the release of his new single, Guardian Angels, featuring Nikki Glaspie (ex Beyoncé, The Nth Power, Maceo Parker, Kamani) on drums and percussion.  On September 24th, the single will be exclusively available for purchase (not on any streaming platforms) but only on the CommunityZ RecordZ official pages (links below), with 100% of proceeds going to support the Charlottesville Public Housing Association of Residents (PHAR-CVille).  PHAR's mission is to educate and empower low-income residents of Charlottesville, VA--a town undergoing sweeping cultural changes--with the ability to protect and improve their community through collective action.  The organization is dedicated to advocating for and working closely with public housing residents and is entirely governed by public housing residents and one Section 8 resident.   Tim's partnership with CommunityZ RecordZ allows him to give back to his former hometown where his musical journey began, as well as contribute an earnest effort to protect the integrity of Charlottesville, a diverse and evolving community that acts in parallel and in reflection to the rest of the country, if not the world. The mission of CommunityZ RecordZ is to connect artists with their formative roots and save the world one song, one artist, one community at a time.  Rarely does the moment meet the music, but in this case, and especially in this time, it felt imperative to ensure that it does.

"I feel incredibly lucky to even be able to support a group like PHAR, and that they exist in a town that is forever dear to my heart.  As far as the chance to work with someone of the musical caliber of Nikki Glaspie, I couldn't jump fast enough," states Reynolds.

Musically, Guardian Angels began as a track that Reynolds recorded on a four track at his home.  CommunityZ RecordZ, the brainchild of Will Bradford (SeepeopleS, theWorst, RascalZ RecordZ) and music artist Sparxsea with board members from the American Special Hockey Association and Payback, as well as Nikki Glaspie herself who serves on the advisory board, had expressed interest in releasing a collaborative song for charity.  Reynolds had known Bradford from years of touring and recording together, and with artists, musicians, and activists connected during the covid lockdown of 2020, the project and mission were born.  This collective vision to help make artists and their music essential again via the direct support of a grassroots support charity, will perhaps offer a more meaningful way for musicians, audiences, and communities to interact and co-exist.

Upon collaboration with Nikki Glaspie, Tim's song took on a new life and became the rare unreleased gem that is now Guardian Angels. The song was lovingly edited, mixed, and mastered by Will Holland (Pixies, Dead Can Dance) at Chillhouse Studios in Boston, MA. The accompanying music video, filmed and edited by Sparxsea (drone footage by Andrew Doody) features scenes from the removal of Confederate statues in the former heart and soul of the confederacy, a seminal event of this past summer in Charlottesville.  It is fascinating to think that Reynolds recorded the original composition long before he and Glaspie so accurately captured the uncertain, cautious, but strong and hopeful emotions surrounding this important juncture in time...as well as ambitions and aspirations felt by the residents of Charlottesville, a city that has become ground zero for the racial reckoning across America.  This is literally a city changing before our eyes.  With Guardian Angels, Tim Reynolds and Nikki Glaspie have given us a truly heartfelt musical offering and we kindly ask for your support to help make this gift one that gives back as much as possible--not just to Charlottesville--but our entire global community as well.

The legendary Grammy-nominated afrobeat band, Antibalas, will be ringing in the New Year with a two night stand at Bayside Bowl in Portland, ME, December 30th and 31st.  Tickets are available for both nights or each night separately.  NYE tickets include champagne service for 21+ attendees.  Antibalas, who have now been a band for more than twenty years, continue to astound audiences with their legendary live shows and critically acclaimed albums.  Don't miss it when these NYC / Brooklyn legends perform two nights in Portland, ME to finish an amazing Fall 2022 concert series at Bayside Bowl.  Tickets are on sale now at (all-ages): BAYSIDEBOWL.COM or at Eventbrite.

It’s hard to believe that more than twenty years have passed since Antibalas’s humble beginning as a neighborhood dance / protest band in the block parties and underground parties in pre-gentrified Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Over the past two decades they have evolved into what The Guardian called “one of the world’s finest Afrobeat bands” while enjoying equal renown for their cross-genre collaborations with legends of popular music. With a heavy balance of experience and new blood, the group leaps into 2020 with their new Daptone Records full-length “Fu Chronicles.” Founded in 1998 by saxophonist Martín Perna, early incarnations of the group included several members of The Dap-Kings including bassist / producer Gabriel Roth, guitarist Binky Griptite, keyboardist Victor Axelrod, conguero Fernando “Bugaloo Velez,” and trumpeter Anda Szilagyi. As the group expanded, it absorbed younger musicians from the Daptone family including bassist Nick Movshon (El Michels, Black Keys) and other musical natives and transplants from downtown Manhattan and North Brooklyn music scenes. In 1999, Perna and Roth dropped in at an atelier / dojo belonging to Duke Amayo. They invited him to a neighborhood concert and then reached out to him later as an emergency substitute for a show. Amayo soon became a fixture in the group, first on percussion, then later on vocals, vibraphone, and keyboards and moving to center stage as the group’s frontman and creating the Afro-Spot, the band’s headquarters as well as the home of the first Daptone Records studio.

Over the next few years, the band performed several times a month throughout NYC at the Afro-Spot, at benefits, lofts, block parties, and at their Lower Manhattan weekly residency called “Africalia” with regular appearances by friends including Sharon Jones, Lee Fields, and The Sugarman Three. After their second release, “Talkatif” (2002, Ninja Tune), the group began touring heavily throughout North America and Europe including performances at Glastonbury, Montreux Jazz Festival, Coachella, Bonnaroo, and the Newport Jazz Festival. Over the years, expanded their travels to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South America, and most recently, Hong Kong. In the late 2000s, after nearly ten years of road touring, Antibalas was chosen by choreographer Bill T Jones, to serve as the band for the Tony-award winning Broadway musical “Fela.” Around the same time, the band began to draw the attention of the Roots. The two groups joined with Public Enemy to perform a live version of the entire “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back” at the 2009 Roots Picnic as well as the Red Bull Battle of the Bands, as well as numerous guest appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Antibalas has also served as the house band for several star-studded tribute shows at Carnegie Hall and the Apollo Theater paying tribute to the music of Aretha Franklin, David Byrne, Paul Simon, and Billie Holiday, backing dozens including Allen Toussaint, Cee Lo Green, Sharon Jones, Santigold, and Angelique Kidjo.

Over the years, different members have traded production and composition duties from album to album. On their newest album—“Fu Chronicles”—Amayo leads us through a thrilling sonic journey of kung fu meets Afrobeat, weaving together the strands of Edo and Yoruba cultural memory from Nigeria with his training and study in Chinese martial arts. Recorded in the Summer of 2018, over seventeen musicians and singers crammed into the storied Daptone House of Soul in Bushwick to record the massive body of work. With live versions and arrangements stretching up to thirty minutes, Perna, Amayo, and Roth worked tirelessly to preserve the hypnotic power of the long-form live arrangements into six concise and powerful album tracks. “Fu Chronicles” is the eighth studio album from Antibalas, who have been releasing music over four decades; Liberation Afro Beat Vol. 1 (1999), Talkatif (2002), Who Is This America? (2004), Security (2007), Government Magic (2011), Antibalas (2012), Where the Gods are In Peace (2017), Fu Chronicles (2020).

The critically acclaimed and award winning instrumental recording duo, Hot Mustard, is proud to announce their forthcoming sophomore album, Seconds, which is scheduled for release March 31st, 2023 (Color Red).  Featured in Relix's '5 Artists You Should Know About', Glide Magazine, Jazz Weekly, and taking home the Charleston City Paper Music Award for "Up and Coming Artist of the Year" in their hometown, HM has begun to turn heads with their clever quality of audio/visual creation. In reverence of golden era boom bap hip-hop/60s/early 70s funk/soul and library style music, the duo has meticulously carved out a sound that feels familiar enough to invoke nostalgia but also contains the depth to conjure intriguing new worlds. The album is laced with intricate brass work by Jordan McLean (Antibalas) and Dave "Smoota" Smith (TV on the Radio) and features two stellar guest appearances by virtuoso cellist Helen Gillet of New Orleans, a healthy dose of Hammond organ by the talented Ross Bogan (Doom Flamingo, Lureto) and a special vocal performance by Alanna Royale (Colemine Records).

"The End of Time," the fourth and final single, features the brilliant Alanna Royale, who adds a dash of soulful spice to the Hot Mustard jar by delivering a short but stirring vocal performance. The skillful organ chops of Ross Bogan carry the track vigilantly to a bittersweet ending, closing out the sophomore album in exceptional style, cementing another inspiring work of art into the Hot Mustard catalog.

The animated music video was created by band member Jack Powell (Opus Thimble), whose visuals are best described as truly sui generis, sometimes drawing comparison to Terry Gilliam (Monty Python).  "The End of Time" becomes available to all major streaming services on March 10th, 2022.

"Parts of the video are in tribute to a canine friend of the Hot Mustard family who tragically passed in the thick of the song's creation," says Powell.  "There are obvious themes like the universally shared experience in the unstoppable march of time, life, death, mortality, rebirth, but I think that it's also ambiguous enough to carry a multitude of meanings to viewers who choose to relate it to their own personal experience. That's the aspect of art that I love the most, that interpretations of art can be as uniquely personal as art itself."
