Global phenomenon Thievery Corporation announces its Surf Hotel debut with a highly-anticipated performance on The LAWN Friday, May 27, 2022. Following this performance, renowned visual artist and DJ Chali 2na will take the stage at the Ivy Ballroom with his band The House of Vibe to close the night out. These two performances are part of the musical festivities during the popular and annual CKS Paddlefest weekend, the largest river festival in Buena Vista.

Thievery Corporation, an American electronic music duo, will take the stage on The LAWN, the newest venue in South Main. Twenty-five years into their genre-defying electronic music career, Thievery Corporation’s founding principles of D.I.Y. and inclusion have become key themes in mainstream social conversation. After a dozen highly acclaimed full-length albums, remix LPs, concert recordings, and over two decades of incendiary live performances that have thrilled audiences worldwide, Thievery Corporation’s music and message are more relevant now than ever.

Following Thievery’s debut performance, the iconic visual artist and hip-hop legend Chali 2na will take the stage at the Ivy Ballroom. Most well-known for co-founding music groups, Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, Chali released his debut solo album "Fish Outta Water" in 2009.  Since then, he has toured the world ten times over with his band known as House of Vibe and has collaborated with some of the industry’s most recognized and respected DJs and Musicians. Breathing visual life into his musical past, Chali embarked on a 6-year journey to produce "Against the Current, a multi-media project that combines a 5-part series of genre-bending EPs with a coffee table art book featuring his original paintings, drawings, and photography.

“It’s an honor to host artists of this caliber at the Surf Hotel venues. It brings me a great deal of joy knowing our local community and Paddlefest friends will get to experience these legendary music pioneers in BV,” said Jed Selby, Co-Founder, and President of South Main and Surf Hotel.

For guests that plan to make a weekend out of the festivities, other musical acts performing at The LAWN during Paddlefest include ETHNO and the Sweet Lillies. ETHNO is led by Denver-based drummer/producer, Jeffrey James Franca. Widely known as the drummer for Thievery Corporation, Jeff brings new life, and a modern sound to the timeless experience of terrestrial vibration using rhythms and melodies influenced by Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and South America.

Opening for ETHNO at The LAWN is Colorado-based band The Sweet Lillies. The Sweet Lillies have incorporated all of their cumulative life experiences into their music, their songwriting, and their artistry, crafting an uncommonly-beautiful style they have christened “String-Americana” - a nod to the band’s all-encompassing musical tastes and willingness to experiment with genres. The band's third studio album was recorded in Denver, CO, and produced by Timothy Carbone of Railroad Earth. Both of these shows will take place Saturday, May 28th at The LAWN. These concerts are free to the public and voluntary donations will benefit a new wave being built in Buena Vista’s River Park.

This Labor day the Surf Hotel will host internationally acclaimed folk musicians Rising Appalachia to The LAWN. Rising Appalachia performed in the Ivy Ballroom to a nearly sold-out crowd in 2019, however, this will be the band's debut performance on The LAWN. The holiday concert will include two shows with the supporting band Birds of Play opening.

As world travelers for nearly two decades, Rising Appalachia have merged multiple global music influences with their own southern roots to create the inviting new folk album, Leylines. Remarkably the band has built its legion of listeners independently -- a self-made success story that has led to major festival appearances and sold-out shows at venues across the country. Colorado Folk band Birds of Play have been described as “intrinsically, undeniably Colorado." Members consist of Alex Paul, Eric Shedd, Anneke Dean, and Jack Tolan, who make up a musical collaboration of multi-instrumentalists performing genres consisting of blues, bluegrass, folk, and funk that leave their audience with all the feels and wanting more.

“We are so honored to welcome Rising Appalachia back to the Surf Hotel. I am a big fan and these women put on an incredible show in the Ivy Ballroom in 2019 that certainly left the audience wanting more. The LAWN felt like a great fit for this second time around. An autumn concert under the stars just felt right” said Jed Selby, Co-Founder, and President of South Main and Surf Hotel.

The Surf Hotel announces it will host the legendary Melvin Seals & JGB for a two-night run, on December 9th & 10th. This will be the band’s debut performance in the Ivy Ballroom.

Melvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-established reputation as a performer, recording artist, and producer. Melvin is most revered for his powerful, high-spirited, Hammond B-3 organ, and keyboards in the Jerry Garcia Band. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become "Jam Band Music". From blues to funk to rock to jazz, Melvin Seals serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up.

Melvin and JGB bring an intuitive, expressive style, soul, spontaneity, and remarkable chops to the table. John Kadlecik on lead guitar and vocal duties, John-Paul McLean's savory bass, Jeremy Hoenig on the drums, and, of course, a heapin' helpin' of the wizard's magic on Hammond B-3 Organ and keyboards. Their chemistry is the focus from which they create a spontaneous and high art where the sky is the limit musically. They offer an exciting, often psychedelic musical journey featuring Grateful Dead faves that changes nightly and keeps the audience dancing and smiling (and some staring in amazement) for hours. Concert-goers can expect a broad horizon mix of original songs in addition to both popular and obscure Jerry Garcia Band and Grateful Dead covers. The band has also been known to throw in song selections by bands like the Meters, Bob Dylan, and Rolling Stones.

Adding his rock-gospel-soul-rhythm and blues touch with his funky style of playing, no wonder Jerry nicknamed him "Master of the Universe". Melvin continues to treat music lovers to his unique brand of melodic flavor with JGB.

ABOUT BOOMBOX

Since first emerging in 2004, founder, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Zion Rock Godchaux has been quietly seasoning and simmering this recipe to perfection. However, it reaches a boiling point on his 2018 album, Western Voodoo. At the same time, the Muscle Shoals, AL native stays true to what attracted countless fans in the first place. “I remain open to anything you would hear coming out of a boombox,” he explains. “There are a lot of different vibes and angles, but it still adheres to a universal rhythm. This new record is the most musical and varied, yet it’s tightly wound in respect to that syncopation. There are only a few rules. It should be heavy groove. It should make you want to move. Overall, I’ve further developed the sound people are used to.” “You hear about different forms of magic around the world,” he goes on. “The West, in general, has its own voodoo influenced by the blues. That’s what shaped me as a musician growing up in this country. It’s hard to put in the words, but you know it when you hear it.”

South Main announces the uniquely soulful American roots and rock band Fruition will make their debut performance on The LAWN on July 19th at the Surf Hotel in Buena Vista, Colorado.

Influenced equally by acoustic music and rock‘n’ roll, the Portland, Oregon-based band is composed of Jay Cobb Anderson (electric guitar, vocals), Kellen Asebroek (keyboards, acoustic guitar, vocals), Jeff Leonard (bass), Mimi Naja (mandolin, guitar, vocals) and Tyler Thompson (drums). Their unmistakable vocal blend first revealed itself in 2008 when Anderson tagged along with Asebroek and Naja for an afternoon of busking in Portland. Since that time, they have opened shows for the Wood Brothers, Greensky Bluegrass, and Jack Johnson, and appeared at festivals like Telluride Bluegrass, Bonnaroo, and DelFest. Fruition’s newest album Broken at the Break of Day, follows the band’s exceptional 2019 album, Wild as the Night.

While this is Fruition's first appearance on The LAWN, a stripped-down trio version of the band consisting of Jay, Kellen, and Mimi performed at Coletrain Music Academy’s Annual Fall Fundraiser hosted in the Ivy Ballroom last October. South Main announces the internationally-acclaimed guitar virtuoso Trace Bundy will return to his hometown in Buena Vista to make his debut performance on The LAWN Friday, August 4th with a very special seated concert. Trace Bundy's music is poetry in motion, using harmonics, looping, multiple capos, and his unique banter and stage presence to deliver an unforgettable live concert experience.

Listening to his intricate arrangements is one thing, but seeing the fan-dubbed "Acoustic Ninja" play live confounds even the most accomplished music lovers as to how one person can do all that with just two hands and ten fingers.

Bundy’s unique career has brought him across the world, with concerts in 28 countries and counting - from high-tech performance halls in South Korea and Italy, to remote villages in Zimbabwe and Guatemala. He has independently sold over 150,000 albums on his record label, Honest Ninja Music. His video clips circulate virally at astonishing speed, with over 45 million YouTube views to date.

Jimmy Leslie at Guitar Player Magazine blogs “It was easy to see why Bundy plays bigger venues on each tour. In his hands, the acoustic guitar is an imagination station, and there was no telling where he was going take the audience at any given turn. Thrilling stuff.”

Audiocast Magazine from Austin, TX agrees: "Bundy's live show is without a doubt an event that needs to be witnessed rather than told about. With such a jaw-dropping performance, Bundy's live concert is a slap in the face that would leave a palm print on the memory of everyone in the audience.”

The Surf Hotel is preparing to host a special evening with Grammy-winning artist and acclaimed songwriter Son Little in the Ivy Ballroom on Saturday, December 16th.

Blending elements of acoustic blues, vintage soul, and conscious hip-hop into a mixture that's expressive yet deeply personal, Son Little (the alias of Aaron Livingston) is a singer and instrumentalist who has been praised by the longstanding publication American Songwriter as "one of the best songwriters working today.”

Son Little has been described as a “polyglot translator and rightful torchbearer of the celebrated musical tradition known as rhythm and blues” (R&B) continues to revolutionize the modern understanding and expectation of the R&B sound in his newest album “Like Neptune.” Trading in the existential dread permeating his previous work for unbridled joy and self-acceptance, Son Little transmutes the chronic pain of self-doubt into a beautiful and freeing opus about overcoming generational trauma. Hailed by Afropunk as "a stunning statement of purpose," Like Neptune decorates the altar of the primordial blues and elevates the labor of healing to high art. “I’ve always felt as though I was making music because I had to, something inside compelled me. Fueled me,” Little shared. “This is the first time in a long time I’m making music for the pure joy of creating.” Like Neptune also marks a return to Son Little’s origins in the east coast underground hip-hop and soul scene, which lead to collaborations with The Roots (“Guns Are Drawn” and “Sleep”) and Icebird partner and frequent-collaborator RJD2 (“Crumbs Off The Table”), and later Portugal the Man (“Woodstock”).

For his Ivy Ballroom debut, Son Little will be accompanied by his band composed of Little on vocals/guitar, Steve McKie (drums), and DeShawn Alexander (keys/bass). The ensemble will tour North America for the first time in support of Like Neptune through November and December.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso will make his Ivy Ballroom debut on the heels of his sophomore album Reflector, released November 2023, and as one of the first shows kicking off his 2024 tour.

Daniel Donato’s cosmic country blends key elements of Southern rock, bluegrass, classic country and honky-tonk with Southern California folk and Northern California musical exploration, all revolving around a foundation of melodic songcraft.

At the age of 12, Donato first discovered he had an aptitude for music via the video game Guitar Hero, and later found his calling after picking up one of his dad’s old guitars. At the age of 16, he became the youngest musician to regularly play the iconic honky tonk Robert’s Western World while gigging with the Don Kelley Band.

The Telecaster-wielding wunderkind started his young career busking outside arenas before John Mayer and Phish concerts and it was then, while playing on Broadway, that he’d give Don Kelley his business card every Saturday night, hoping for a chance to audition. One day, while still a junior in high school, he got the call to come play. Donato was more than ready, and he delivered the goods in spades. He was so good, in fact, that he became a regular member of the band, performing four nights a week for more than 450 shows with the group.

His latest album, Reflector, is a true masterpiece that showcases Donato’s well-developed musical tastes and influences. From the first note to the last, he pours his heart and soul into his fiery instrumental arrangements, keeping the listener engaged for over an hour. His music is inspired by a range of artists, from the jam-heavy Grateful Dead to the crooning country of Willie Nelson.

The Surf Hotel is honored to present the nationally renowned electro-folk duo Moontricks in the Ivy Ballroom, Sunday, February 18th. Special Guest, Rhode Island-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Will Evans will open for the group.

Based in the rustic Kootenay mountains of Western Canada, Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman of nationally renowned electro-folk duo Moontricks draw inspiration from the ongoing cycles of the natural world. Both volatile and constant—like nature’s best offerings—the band finds solace and beauty in the fusion of seemingly disparate elements. There’s a kind of technicolor campfire quality to their uniquely hybrid sound: Each track is steeped in tradition and polished with a futuristic sheen, mixing organic folk, roots rock, and old-time blues with modern electronic production. Since its initial release, the band’s breakout hit “Home” has reached over 5 million streaming plays, and their original tracks have been licensed for a wide range of television networks, including Netflix and Fox Sports. With the release of their debut full-length album Currents, the duo reveals an ever-evolving, cohesive blend of introspective writing, soulful, gritty blues, boot-stomping basslines, and intricate electronic arrangements.

Will Evans pulls everyone into his embrace. He musically accesses a space without boundaries where all are welcome to commune openly and move freely. Through quotable folk-inspired lyrics, breezy grooves, and roots energy, it’s as if he’s giving you permission to be that pure self you can’t always be at work or even at home. The Rhode Island-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist also puts his words into action via his “Kind Folk” fan community, activating small acts of kindness, charity, and goodwill in tandem with performances nationwide. Buzzing out of the East Coast, he has consistently engaged and enraptured a fervent audience. By rotating between acoustic guitar, didgeridoo, handpan, percussive beatboxing, and more, he has developed a living and breathing signature sound of his own.

The Surf Hotel is honored to present Colorado-based Bluegrass, Folk phenom Elephant Revival for a very special Two-Night Run in the Ivy Ballroom, March 29th & 30th.

Elephant Revival is a unique collection of multi-instrumentalists blending elements of Celtic, Americana, Folk and Indie Art Rock. The band consists of Bonnie Paine (vocals, cello, djembe, washboard and musical saw), Bridget Law (fiddle, vocals), Dango Rose (upright bass, mandolin, vocals), Charlie Rose (banjo, pedal steel, mandolin, vocals) Darren Garvey (drums, percussion, vocals) and Daniel Sproul (guitars, vocals) of Rose Hill Drive. The music they create together is like weather systems meeting in the sky, Bonnie’s warmly haunting voice either merging with the rhythms and melodies of the band or providing a counterpoint and transforming it.

The Surf Hotel has been working on booking Elephant Revival since the summer of 2023, following the group’s announcement to reunite and begin touring after taking a four year hiatus. “When I’m looking at booking bands my goal has always been to diversify the music offerings we present for our community and our visitors. Some choices feel experimental, and others you simply know are great partnerships for the Surf Hotel. Elephant Revival is one of those bands that is just the perfect fit,” said Eddie Sandoval, Concert Manager & Talent Buyer for Surf Hotel. “We are especially excited to showcase this elite group of performers utilizing our recent venue upgrades which now includes an impressive L-Acoustics sound system creating a full-range, immersive and unparalleled audio experience for the listener,” he said.

The Surf Hotel is honored to present American roots musician and pro surfer, Donavon Frankenreiter doing a special full band set backed by storytelling folk rock band Goodnight, Texas in the Ivy Ballroom on Saturday, March 2nd. Special guest Madeline Hawthorne, a Montana-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist will open the show.

Donavon Frankenreiter made an instant connection with the band Goodnight, Texas recently while out on the road, comparing them to a modern-day version of The Band. He decided not only to bring them out as support for this tour, but also to have Goodnight, Texas play as his backing band alongside his longtime guitarist Matt Grundy. Incorporating their musicianship with a fresh take on Donavon’s extensive catalog, the evening will feature mandolin guitar, banjo, pedal steel, bass, drums, and more. For nearly four decades Donavon has been traveling the globe, first as a professional surfer and now as a musician. Born in Southern California, Donavon spent most of his youth chasing waves, turning pro at the age of 16. These days instead of surf competitions, it’s concert halls that bring Frankenreiter to town, where he entertains audiences with his unique blend of laid-back grooves, philosophical lyrics and soulful delivery.

“Donavon Frankenreiter is a legendary figure in the surfing and music worlds. He has been touring heavily for years and we’ve always wanted to host him at the Surf Hotel in Buena Vista. We are so happy to have finally made this a reality,”  said Eddie Sandoval, Concert Manager & Talent Buyer for Surf Hotel. “I’m probably most excited to just experience Donavon live. I’ve been listening to him for a long time and love his studio recordings, but sometimes you can’t fully understand and appreciate an artist until you are in their presence. His music is so positive and soulful, and it will be amazing to see that unfold on stage,” he said.

The band backing Donavon Frankenreiter - Goodnight, Texas - is a tough-to-define storytelling folk rock band whose strength lies in unexpected sweet spots. Drawing their name from frontmen Avi Vinocur and Patrick Dyer Wolf’s onetime geographic midpoint (the real town of Goodnight in the State of Texas, a tiny hamlet east of Amarillo directly betwixt San Francisco, CA and Chapel Hill, NC), the five-piece band also exists at the center of its songwriters’ contrasting styles — via a 1913 Gibson A mandolin and a 2015 Danelectro Baritone Guitar, at the crossroads of folk and blues and rock ‘n’ roll, in a place where dry wit and dark truths meet hope and utmost sincerity.

Madeline Hawthorne, who will open the evening, asserts herself as a 21st-century troubadour. This Montana-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist is a powerhouse who takes her audience on an intriguing journey with her unbridled attitude and wide-eyed adventurous spirit, turning every show into a celebration.

Americana singer/songwriter Clay Rose is (the front-man of the Boulder alt-country rock band Gasoline Lollipops) has been added as support for Elephant Revival's Two-Night Run in the Ivy Ballroom at Surf Hotel March 29th & 30th.

Gasoline Lollipops lead singer Clay Rose was raised between an outlaw, truck-driving father in the mountains of Colorado and a country song-writing mama in the sticks outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Clay’s distinctive voice, often compared to Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, is deep, gritty and filled with both intensity and truth. Clay’s vulnerable performances paired with his authentic, soulful songwriting and lyrics, make him a "must-see" in Colorado’s music scene and beyond.
